How to Use Neural Amp Modeler (NAM A2) Captures from Tone3000 with Your Valeton GP-200
With Valeton GP-200 firmware version 1.8.0 or higher, you can upload NAM A2 captures from Tone3000. On your computer, you need the GP-200 Setup app version 1.8.1 or higher.
The GP-200 supports NAM A2 through an amp capture module called SnapTone.

Update the Firmware with the Valeton GP-200 Setup App on Your Computer
Identify the Firmware Version
First, take note of the firmware version currently installed on your hardware.
- Power up your unit. On the front panel, press the Global button.
- On the display, you’ll see Global Settings. Turn the Para knob until you get to “About.” The firmware version number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen; for example, “Firmware Version V.1.7.4.” Write down your number.
Next, on your computer, go to the Valeton website, identify and download the version of the GP-200 Setup app that matches the version number of the firmware that’s currently on your unit. Don’t install the newest version of the app at this time; it will not be compatible with your older firmware. Follow these steps.
Install the ASIO Driver for Windows
If you are on Windows 10 or Windows 11, then you must first install the newest version of Valeton’s USB driver.
If you are on macOS, then no driver installation is needed. Skip to the next section.
On Windows:
- On the Valeton Support Download page, under Software > ASIO > win, find the newest version of the Valeton USB Audio Driver. Click the link to download.
- Find the .zip file in your Downloads folder and extract it. Run the installer and follow the prompts.
Install the Version of the GP-200 Setup App That Matches Your Firmware
Select the right version of the GP-200 Setup app that matches your current firmware.
- Take note of the firmware version that’s installed on your unit, which you found in the section above.
- On your computer, go to the Valeton Support Download page. Under Software > Multi Effects > GP-200 SERIES, select your operating system, “win” or “mac.”
- On the next page, locate the version of the GP-200 Setup app that most closely matches the version number of the firmware currently installed on your unit. For example, if your unit has firmware V1.7.4, then you need GP-200 Setup V1.7.0.
- Download the .zip file. Go to your Downloads folder; extract and run the installer.
Connect Your GP-200 to Your Computer & Run the GP-200 Setup App

The Firmware Update tab in the Settings of the GP-200 Setup app.
- Connect your GP-200 to your computer with a USB-C data cable and power on the unit.
- Launch the GP-200 Setup app. After a couple of seconds, it should recognize your device and go to the home screen.
Windows 11 Users: If the App Can’t Recognize Your Device
Valeton reports that some users on Windows 11 can’t update the firmware because Windows 11 doesn’t recognize their Valeton device over USB. If you encounter this problem, then there’s a procedure to manually switch to using the Windows 11 generic USB Audio Device driver.
Follow the instructions in this Valeton bulletin: Win11 technical notice.
Launch the GP-200 Setup app and start the procedure over again.
Back Up Your Data
If you have already created custom patches, then you need to use the GP-200 Setup app to back up your data to a folder on your computer’s hard drive before you update the firmware.
- In the home screen of the app, under “Patch List,” shift-click to select the range of patches you wish to export.
- Click the icon of the page with the arrow pointing to the right. This will open the “Export Patch(es)” dialog.
- Click “OK” to select a folder where the patches will be stored and follow the prompts.
Download the Newest Firmware from the Valeton Website
Now that you’ve got the correct version of the app communicating with your GP-200, you need to go back to the Valeton website and download the newest firmware.
- On your computer, go to the Valeton Support Download page and follow the path Firmware > Multi Effects > GP-200/GP-200R…
- On this page, you’ll see many different versions of the GP-200 firmware. Download the newest version that’s posted here.
- In your Downloads folder, extract the file.
Load & Update the Firmware
- With your GP-200 connected to your computer via USB and the GP-200 Setup app open, click on the Settings (wrench) icon in the upper-right corner.
- In the Settings panel, click on “Firmware Update.”
- In the Firmware Update pane, click on the folder icon next to “Please select a firmware (.bin) file.”
- In the Open dialog, navigate to the firmware update folder you downloaded and extracted before. Select the file ending in “.bin.”
- Back in the Firmware Update pane, click “Update Now.”
- A dialog will remind you about backing up your patches. Since you’ve done this in a previous step, click “Continue.” In the second warning dialog, click “Continue” again.
The app will upload the firmware to the GP-200 hardware. The GP-200 hardware will then install the update and reboot.
Be patient during the update. Don’t quit the app, disconnect the USB cable, or touch anything on the GP-200 unit. The entire update process may take as long as 20 minutes, and during that time you won’t see any progress on the GP-200’s display screen.
Pay close attention to the messages displayed in the app and on the screen of the GP-200. Don’t shut down or restart the unit until you are prompted to do so.
When the update is complete, press the Global button and use the Para knob to scroll to “About” and confirm that the new firmware number is displayed. This indicates that the update was installed correctly.
If the Update Won’t Work
There’s a “reset” procedure you can try. It’s detailed in the Firmware Update screen in the app.
- Quit the app.
- Disconnect the power supply while keeping the USB cable connected to your computer.
- Hold down footswitches 2 and 3 (labeled with a plus sign and “CTRL”) as well as the Para knob with one hand while connecting the power supply with the other. While holding everything down, press the power switch. The unit will boot into Firmware Update mode.
- Launch the app and click the Settings icon.
- Go to Settings > Firmware Update, browse and select the firmware file, and repeat the installation procedure.
Update Your GP-200 App to the Newest Version
Now you’ve got the newest firmware installed on your GP-200, but you have an older version of the GP-200 Edit app on your computer that will not work with the new firmware.
- On your computer, uninstall the GP-200 Edit app.
- Go to the Valeton Support Download page. Under Software > Multi Effects > GP-200 Series, select your operating system, “win” or “mac.”
- Locate the version of the GP-200 Setup app whose version number most closely matches that of the version number of the firmware you installed on your unit. For example, if you’ve installed firmware V1.8.0, then you can download and install GP-200 Setup V1.8.1.
- Download the .zip file. Go to your Downloads folder; extract and run the installer.
Restore from Backup if Needed
On your unit, check out the patches. If anything is missing, then you can restore the patches that you backed up in the procedure above.
- In the GP-200 Setup app, under “Patch List,” select a patch location.
- Click on the icon of a page with an arrow pointing left.
- This will open the Import Patches dialog. Click “OK” and navigate to the folder where you stored your patches.
- Select a patch and click “Open.”
The patch will be restored to your GP-200 in the slot you selected.
