Professional sound, project studio price!

Avantone's CV-12 brings classic tube mic sound to professional and project studios everywhere - and at a price that truly means anyone can own one of these ruby-colored beauties. The CV-12 is equipped with nine polar patterns to handle a variety of sound sources including the human voice, strings, acoustic guitars, drum overheads, and much more, and it does it all with the style and sound often found in much pricier tube mics from generations back. A good mic such as the CV-12 can breathe new life into your recordings.

Built for great sound
The CV-12 offers performance that rivals that of much higher-priced mics. The rugged CV-12 microphone body and capsule assembly are precision machined of brass. Aesthetically, it features an elegant cabernet wine-red finish, accented with polished nickel trim and grill. The transformer coupled tube circuitry has its origins in famous European vintage designs. Any studio can proudly use the CV-12 as a primary vocal mic - it exudes class visually as well as sonically.

Manufactured using the finest materials, the CV-12 yields a very solid feel, superb structural integrity and rugged reliability. Nine available pickup patterns allow anything to be recorded with ease, and the dual 32mm gold-sputtered Mylar capsules respond quickly to transients to capture the true sound of any instrument or voice. When used on nuanced, delicate sound sources, the versatile CV-12 mic is able to produce professional results with a warm, pleasing sonic character - just like what you'd expect from a vintage tube mic. The PS-12 power supply offers access not only to the omni, cardioid, and figure 8 patterns but also six "in-between" settings. Most vocals will be best suited to cardioid pattern but you may experiment and find other settings also work well. The omnidirectional mode works well for ambient room miking.

Included accessories
The CV-12 comes complete with a custom retro shockmount, which allows for precise positioning of the mic while minimizing the transfer of unwanted vibrations up into the mic. This isolation allows for superior professional results. Other accessories included are the PS-12 multi-pattern power supply with cables, a padded wooden mic box, and a padded aluminum storage/travel case.

Wow! Love this mic

I love the sound of this microphone. It has that expensive sound of high end tube microphones. I'm very happy and I'll definitely be keeping this one. I'm only using for vocals but I'm sure it would be great on acoustic guitar and piano. I don't think you can beat it at this price point.

Whoa!! On a budget but want that pro sound? Don’t look Further!

Man! My music sounds WAY better! What an upgrade! I had the Rode NT1-A which don't get me wrong it's pretty good. But this mic? From the unboxing to the sound quality of this is just CRAZY! Very well made, sturdy, heavy and that red color OMG. I'm very happy with this mic, the only downside that I can say is that it can be a little hissy with the S's but there's always DeEssers so it's not a big problem. Overall, great mic! Definitely recommend it!

First Tube Condenser

As the title suggests, I bought this mic as my first tube condenser, my step up from the Blue Spark condenser I've been using for the past 5 years. I can't speak from a place of having used extremely high end microphones, but this was definitely a good choice as my first "expensive budget mic". Compared to the EQ I was having to put on my vocal before, I feel like I can switch on the low cut switch and barely have to do anything to the EQ for this mic to sound great on my voice. The mic is quite heavy and comes with a super high quality shock mount (which does have a mildly annoying thumb screw system lol). The only downside and reason i didn't put a full 5 starts is that the 7 pin XLR input on the power supply is very wobbly and flimsy feeling, which is something I've seen in other reviews. The 3pin XLR output feels great, but I do feel I have to be quite delicate when plugging in/ unplugging the 7 pin. If you, like me, are looking for a mic that's an upgrade from your $100 range vocal microphone, the Avantone CV-12 is a great choice which adds color to your recording with the tube, and gives you a significantly better overall sound than a "super budget friendly" condenser! Highly recommended!

Avantone CV-12

I've now had some time to record some stuff with this mic and I must say I am pleasantly surprised at how good it is. I own a TLM103, which isn't cheap, and I would put this one up against it anytime. Good stuff!
