TRRS Audio Interface with Inline XLR Microphone Preamp, +48V Phantom Power, Headphone Output, and Integrated Cable

The IK Multimedia iRig Pre 2 is arguably the simplest portable solution for capturing high-quality XLR microphone audio directly onto your smartphone, tablet, or DSLR camera. This battery-powered TRRS audio interface has a permanently attached, auto-sensing 15.75-inch cable to connect seamlessly to a wide range of mobile devices and pro cameras. Just plug the iRig Pre 2 into the headphone jack of your compatible device, and you've got a pathway for high-quality mic audio from your favorite handhelds, shotguns, and studio condensers. An in-line XLR mic preamp with 48-volt phantom power lets the iRig Pre 2 handle all your hungriest studio condenser mics. But that's not all. Plug in a set of headphones, and you've got a direct monitor control for auditioning audio in real time — perfect for multitrack recording and pitch-perfect dialog capture. The iRig Pre 2's streamlined controls make it impossible to get lost in control glut. Not only that, but color-coded LEDs right on the front panel show whether the preamp is on and phantom power is engaged. No-Go w/ Amp

By Mike C. from Maryland
Music Background: Guitar

Full disclosure: This product might not even be designed to work with an amp. Didn't see anything in the literature on Sweetwater site and them being a music company I just figured it would work. I was wrong.

The reason why I bought this in the first place was because my videos of me recording myself playing guitar just sounded bad. You could hear my strings better than the amp. After some searching this looked like it fit the bill.

The recording was washed out. The timing was way off with the video. It was just bad.

Some other facts you might want to know:
-Have to download apps to use.
-Not user friendly at all.
-If you want to use the tools in the apps it's an extra charge.

That product might be right for you, just not for amps is all I'm saying. Or mine came broken. Haha.

Interesting device.. with High Pitch Feedback

By Sherry M. from Portland, Or

I really liked this like iRig pre 2 and still getting used to using it. I already went through one set of batteries. I tried using it today and am experiencing a high pitch feedback sound and can't figure out why. Everything is the same. Even moving the unit away from the computer offers no reduction in interference.

Awesome Buy

By Snerry from Portland Oregon
Music Background: I played instruments and sang all through school, but it's recently that I started VO work and creating content.

I absolutely love this little thing. It takes a minute to understand how it works but once you figure that out it's cool. I can see using it when on the road. I'll be doing interviews and it'll be great to have on hand.

There was no clicking, and once I got how the gain worked, it was just wayr I wanted.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Amazing product

By Father C. from Heidelberg Ms
Music Background: Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Drums my first gig was playing trumpet for the high school band

I've used this product to record with, everything I've recorded with this product has been approved and released by my distributor. To record or live stream. I direct line out of my 4 input Behringer acoustic amp. To be more specific when I live stream I have three things going on at once with this device. Backing tracks, mic, and guitar with effect pedals. All single line out to the one line in on the IRig. Some have said you will overload it. But in at least 6 months of doing this regular. I've never had a problem. This thing is tough as nails. If you are on a super tight budget and need something that will work well with any smart device to record, video or live stream look no further than the IRig Pre 2 . For 50 bucks you can't go wrong. Some say the sound quality is bad "not true" if the sound is bad check the settings on what is being fed into it. There will be the problem. Because everytime I've had hissing etc. All I've had to do is adjust something on my amp not the IRig. Put the gain on 2 the volume on 4 those are my magic numbers for the IRig

Hissy

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Recording musician

This is not pro audio. You will notice the wash of hiss right away. You might or might not care about the added distortion. Regardless of what microphone you plug in, the sound is well below that of the microphone built into an iPhone — or the inline microphone on a $15 earbud set, for that matter. Sometimes you need to put a microphone right in front of an interview subject, probably because you're talking outdoors, and that's what this is for. If you were thinking of using a studio microphone, you need a pro-level preamp. If you're using a karaoke app in the living room, this level of hiss will dampen the fun. I would look for something quieter.

IRig Pre 2 - As advertised.

By Sweetwater Customer from California

I purchased the Irig Pre 2 as a audio interface with an i-phone for shooting video. I have a background in television production and was looking for a way to carrying less equipment. I've used it once in the field and once in the studio for recording vocals. It does its job as advertised. The only downside is having to attach an additional piece of equipment to my camera and tripod set up.
