Roland V-Drums Quiet Design VQD106 Electronic Drum Set Reviews

5-piece Electronic Drum Set with 3 x 8" Toms, 8" Kick Tower, 8" Snare, 12" Hi-hat with Controller, 2 x 12" Crash/Rides, TD-07 Module, and Stand

While the already-quiet V-Drums are impressive, imagine a V-Drums set with up to 75% noise reduction compared to a conventional V-Drums kit! Introducing the Roland V-Drums Quiet Design VQD106 electronic drum set. True to its name, this ultra-quiet V-Drums kit is all but destined to become the kit for home and apartment project studios; it also makes an excellent side kit for studios that book multiple rooms. Its pads may be whisper quiet, but they're not stifling, thus allowing you plenty of opportunity for creative expression. The included TD-07 module has plenty of onboard sounds that will inspire. Finally, for drummers seeking a practice tool, the supercharged VQD106's Onboard Coach, integrated metronome, and free drum lessons with Melodics for V-Drums software represent an embarrassment of rhythmic riches.

The Quietest E-Drum

By Sweetwater Customer

The hype is real, this e-drum is so quiet. I live in a space where I normally couldn't have a drum due to the noise. This kit is a game changer. I can play while my roommate sleeps in the room next door. There are very minimal floor vibrations from both pedals. Excellent design by Roland. The TD-07 module works just fine for a practice kit, but is lacking in terms of a show kit, definitely would want to change around some sounds if using this for shows.

Which isn't a knock against this kit, it was never meant to be the top tier e-drum show kit, it was meant to solve the number one problem of the practicing drummer: noise.

The drums come in two different large boxes (per the Roland support page) Box 1: 38.98″ (L)

drum set

Music Background: drums about 40 years

this drumset is so quiet its unbelievable. I live in an apartment with a drop ceiling with an old lady living above me, this drumset is directly under where she sleeps. I play at 2-3 am no problems and I hit hard. I bought this so I can keep in shape for my acoustic kit. The only con I can think of so you have no time limits. UPdate Roland VQD-106 Drum Set

By Johnny K. from Mount Pocono, PA

Specifically designed technology to be the "quietest" playable pads in the world of electronic drums. My experience owning a multiple variety of Roland and other brands of electronic drum sets can confirm the Roland VQD-106 is incredibly quiet to play on. The bass drum and hi hat pad design is almost completely silent.
The limitations of the VQD-106 which uses the lower priced module of the TD-07KV are single trigger pads for the tom and cymbal pads. Perhaps the potential buyers with practice only drum kits. NOT good enough for live professional gigs in my experiences but OK for practice in apartments.

It's a matter of time before Roland will create a duo
"quiet" trigger configuration with the TD-K17 as the duo trigger pads already exist. Perhaps creating a 12" "quiet" snare version also. Expect a much higher cost to this upgrade version.

The editing options on the TD-07KV module is relatively easy to understand and maneuver through if you are already an experienced Roland drum set user. Of course for the lower cost the features are much less in functionality and quality with the editing options being very basic but enough to cater to your likings for "practice" purpose goals. Is it worth the price? YES if your goal is to be able to practice in situations where volume has to be kept to a minimum and still be able to practice with conviction.

The technology behind this concept is astonishing and unbeatable if you are seeking a way to practice in an apartment without disturbing your roommates or neighbors. Yet with a pair of headphones and bluetooth playback you can be on a stage playing for tens of thousands and nobody will know it but you....

Surprisingly Well Built Technology

By Johnny K. from Mount Pocono, PA

I questioned the high price for the unit ($) considering the lack luster TD-07 module that some reviewers left moderate reviews for. As I extracted the parts from the boxes started to realize Roland used strong heavy quality parts. The individual parts including the pads are heavy in weight and solid in design - the Roland VQD-106 is more than a practice kit and compared to other mid-priced brands is superior in quality and build. The setup is relatively easy if you Google how to setup the VQD-106:

So far so good. The Roland VQD-106 feels and looks very professional. The technology in the concept and the pad designs are fantastic... but I will update the review after a few weeks of going through the kits and editing benefits to compare to my modified Roland TD-17KVX drum set.

Curious as to why the two boxes were super heavy?

Yes the boxes were by themselves extra heavy duty for protection and a credit to Roland's commitment to damage and quality control in the delivery process against those few uncaring delivery drivers.
