This Lightweight Headset Mic Is Big on Comfort and Clarity

With more color, connector, and clip options than other headset mics in its class, the Shure TwinPlex TH53 offers the flexibility and clarity to power theaters, studios, conference halls, and houses of worship all over the world. The TH53's extremely natural sound signature complements speakers and performers of all qualities, with low noise, dynamics, and dependability that far exceed its price. Its ultra-compact dual-diaphragm capsule boasts twice the surface area of other leading subminiature microphones. This increased size, paired with its omnidirectional polar pattern and superior off-axis consistency, lends the TH53 a natural speech pickup that excels in any live environment. What's more, a lightweight and fully adjustable headset frame primes the mic element for optimal speech/vocal pickup without obscuring sight lights. So whether you're filming or presenting, teaching or performing, the TH53 holds up to extreme scrutiny. A paintable, 1.6mm-diameter reinforced cable is also included.

Stress tested beyond real-world conditions

Lab-tested, road-ready Shure TwinPlex headset microphones keep ticking when all others fail. Every microphone and cable in this series is treated to a series of exhaustive stress tests to ensure dependability and premium sound in real-world performance applications.

  • Sweat Test — It’s no secret that performers sweat into their headworn mics. The hot lights, the performance pressure — it’s enough to make even the most seasoned professional a little warm under the collar. That’s why Shure’s TwinPlex mics have undergone rigorous moisture testing to resist sweat-related noise and mic failure in the heat of a performance. Shure’s custom-designed SweatBot saturates its TwinPlex test capsules in a 99% humidity soak for a full 24 hours. Mics are then rigorously tested to ensure noise-free, crystal-clear voice and speech pickup. The secret is a superhydrophobic coating, which is proven to keep perspiration out of the mic capsule.
  • Flex Test — Shure’s medical-grade TwinPlex spiral test cables have been stretched, bent, and smashed to their limit in the name of audio excellence. The breaking point has been shown to be one so extreme that most performers and engineers are likely never to reach it in their careers. Even after years of use and abuse, TwinPlex cables are engineered to deliver pro sound and performance without the memory effects, cracking, and stiffening common to lesser cables.

Dual-diaphragm design

Dual diaphragms in the Shure TH53 tailor this mic to all qualities of speakers and performers. From the huskiest baritone to the brightest soprano, the natural tone of every voice is brought to life through this marvel of modern engineering. Beyond its consistent on- and off-axis frequency response, the TwinPlex TH53 delivers a wide-open dynamic range with high SPL handling and a low noise floor to maintain the excitement and energy of every performance. The TH53 is also built to resist RF interference from bodypack wireless systems for a cleaner signal in any live environment.

Double-shielded 1.6mm cable

An included medical-grade cable with fiber reinforcement gives your TwinPlex headset mic the endurance to go the distance, night after night. This cable is built on Shure’s exclusive Spiral Cable technology to resist the kinking, cracking, and memory effects common to other mini mic cables. A redundant ground wire in the cable serves as secondary shielding for added strength and longevity. Even better, the TwinPlex cable is paintable to match any performer, environment, set dressing, and costume. If you’re after a mic that’s built to stand up to the rigors of the modern live performance environment, you’ll find it in the Shure TwinPlex TH53 from Sweetwater.

Shure's TwinPlex headset mics are available in multiple color and connector options.

Reviews

The Greatest Multi-Purpose Mic for Theater

This mic is amazing. You can use it as a headset mic. You can use it as a Lav mic. You can also (my favorite) use it in an actor's hair as a forehead mic. The stiff wire that is attached to it makes it so easy to thread through the persons hair or wig.

The mic sounds amazing and the cable is so rugged. I just used 5 of these on a play that we ran 30 wireless mics on, and it was by far the best sounding of the entire group. I had been a big DPA fan in the past, but the price of those have gone up so much I wanted to look for options. I also had several DPAs break the treads out of the connectors - and at $ per connector - that got expensive.

I work at a K-12 school and these mics can work on everyone, even the Head of School !!

Do yourself a favor, purchase one of these and try it against - DPA, Countrymann, Sennheiser, or Sanken, I think you will see and hear what I have.

Thank you Shure for such a great and versatile microphone that checks all the boxes.

Pastor who wishes we'd bought this headset first!
This mic is far superior to anything I have ever used and I would highly recommend it. Initially our church bought the type of mic that goes over just one ear and I struggled with it from the first use because it was always moving around. My vestments pulled at it constantly which often changed the mic position causing it to distractingly stick out from the side of my face. No matter what combination we can up with and how much we tried to adjust it to fit well--it would do something weird every service. After the initial one ear type mic failed, we purchased this Shure Twin Plex to replace it and WOW! Not only is it by far superior in sound, but the intuitive-ease-of-use and its ability to stay put after getting it on is an absolute courtesy to the one speaking and wearing it. I highly recommend this headset!

The pieces over the ear are "wiry" and are therefore not comfortable on my ear. Also the mic part is super loose and so I'm constantly adjusting it to get it back to where it needs to be to pick up my voice.
