Create Pseudo-polyphonic Patches from a Mono Sequence
The best way to become acquainted with the Intellijel Shifty voice-allocating Eurorack module is to use it to send notes from a monophonic to four different synth voices, allowing them to play and sustain independently (sometimes called note hocketing). At its core, Shifty combines four sample and hold stages, a sequential gate, and a sequencer controller — a utility module that packs a ton of creative potential. And because its firmware can be upgraded via USB, the Intellijel Shifty is ready to evolve along with the rest of your Eurorack rig.

Turn a mono sequence into a multi-voice ensemble
One way to use Shifty is to send it a monophonic note sequence and use it to trigger up to four separate destinations. Each sequential note will be sent to a different output, determined by the direction switch — up, down, ping-pong, and random. The manual button allows for sampling, tracking, and advancing the sequence.
Use as a shift register to create stacked notes
When in Shift Register (SR) mode, Shifty allocates each note in a sequence to a different output each time a new note is input. With all four outputs each connected to a separate synth voice, the notes of the sequence will stack on top of each other, while also shifting voice allocation when new notes appear. Eurorack fans at Sweetwater agree that, while it's challenging to explain in a few words, the creative potential of Shift Register mode is obvious once you hear it in action.
Sample and sequence
Shifty's Gate input can track or sample control signals, and the pitch input can sample or track pitches ranging from 0 to 10 volts. The red button activates sampling/tracking as well as advancing the sequence. Shifty can be used as a basic Sample/Track and Hold module or as a sequential gate.
