Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG
Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG Reviews
Upgrade your guitar's control system with the Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG and similar guitars. This kit's premium components include precision-made potentiometers, Emerson Custom Bumblebee Paper in Oil Capacitors, and a Switchcraft output jack. They have been prewired and soldered, so you can drop them in your guitar with minimal work. Emerson Custom uses unique ’50s-style wiring with this kit to give you optimized tone. The result is a stronger and tighter tone, a smoother-feeling Volume pot with less treble loss when rolling the volume down, and interactive Volume and Tone controls. The Tone and Volume controls interact like a vintage amplifier: when you roll back the volume, the tone changes a little bit, and vice versa. Every Emerson Pro pot is hand-metered in-house and falls within ±8% tolerance, and the capacitors are the only new MIL-Spec capacitors in production in the US. Guitarists at Sweetwater know that every component in your guitar affects your sound — improve tone and control feel with the Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG and similar guitars.
Great Product!
You pay for what you get. This product is by far the best out there.
Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG Guitars
I replaced the original control system in my Gibson Inspired Epiphone '61 SG Maestro Vibrola with the
Emerson Custom Prewired Kit for Gibson SG Guitars ... It's awesome ! ... Everything is exactly what it says it is in the description ... I also replaced the knobs and toggle switch tip with Gibson knobs and tip (The pod poles and toggle switch are thicker than the originals) ... and of course, Nick Huskins is the best !
Emerson prewired kit
This kit transformed my SG. I am extremely happy with its ease of installation and product quality.
Best Upgrade Ever
If you need to change pickups or want to upgrade the factory wiring, these kits from Emerson is the way to go. This is my 2nd kit, I also did my Les Paul last year. What a huge difference in tone! Simple to install, and built with quality components and workmanship. I changed the pickups on my SG to an Antiquity in the neck and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. Sounds amazing and these Pre-wired kits really open up the tone with the '50's wiring. Mike Greebe my sales engineer was great as usual!
The best solder work I have ever seen.
The best solder work I have ever seen. I have been doing repair work for over 35 yrs and I don't think I could do the this work as neat and precise . With the Emerson Paper and Oil caps and the taper of their pots, you get a wide range of tone settings. The only negative to this prewired kit is the extra ordinary stiffness of the potentiometers. You won't be doing volume swells or WAH effects without putting your pinky through strentgh training first.
still awesome
i bought these few years ago and dropped in my 66 epiphone sg ,,,unbeliveable wowwwww i bought 2 gibson pickups as well the 496 and 500 it just blows me away the sound is incredible hopin to buy the emerson kit for my hendrix mim strat,,wich i also bought through sweetwater ty to all the great employes you guys are great ,,,mcluvn 0517
2019 Gibson SG Tribute
I finally replaced the circuit board wiring that my guitar came with. The volume pot on the neck pickup was crackly and I really just didn't like the PCB. This was a great replacement. Easy to swap out and wire in the new Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups I bought with it.
Performance review
This is a follow up to my earlier review. To their credit, actual performance live under load is good to excellent. They are quiet, as they should be, and the only time I notice the feel that I noticed before installing them was unplugged. I put these in an '89 Epiphone G-400 SG along with a set of Mojotone '59 Clones. With these pickups, I find myself using the controls more often and have not encountered any problems. Could they have used a more 'fluid' CTS version? Probably, but I have no complaints, nor do I notice them to distraction during performance, also as it should be... This is the first pre-built harness I have used since modifying guitars and probably won't be the last, it is way too convenient if you are looking for a fast build.
Sweet Kit!
This is the second Emerson Kit I have put in my guitars. I put these in a Gibson SG Special with P90s. They sound fantastic. The middle position seems to cancel hum which is nice. Not that there is much noise anyway. Really quiet for P90s. Don't hesitate to buy these. Thanks Chris Ishak for hooking me up.
CTS pots?
The soldering job is excellent and well executed, really a drop in piece as you would expect. I"m not sure what version CTS pots they are using, but I am used to a much higher quality from them. The shafts are fairly loose and and you can feel them on the inside of the pot, not good. The switch is an average Chinese make and a mono jack is a mono jack. I decided to purchase these for a quick job on an SG and the old moldy pots coming out are much better than these. I am not sure I will use these, instead take the time to do my own harness. Even using the overpriced Gibson pots on this site would have been less expensive than this. Not a good value.... There are similar harnesses in the same price range using better components on other sites. Disappointed in this set.
Super high quality and transforms your tone
Installed this Emerson kit in my 2004 Gibson SG Standard along with a new set of Duncan Saturday Night Specials. Totally transformed this guitar for the better. The Emerson kit is super high quality and installs effortlessly. I can now ride my volume knob with no loss of treble as I roll down. I have 5 guitars and all of them now have Emerson wiring kits. I consider this a small price to pay for better tone and functionality. Pull the trigger and install an Emerson kit on your guitar. You"ll be glad you did.
SG=Sound Good
Let me start by saying this project started with my Gibson SG special faded that I put a 57 classic in the neck and a burstbucker in the bridge. That drastically improved the guitar! I always felt that I needed more range on my tone pots and felt the pickups were more prone to feedback. The Emerson prewired kit has solved those problems and more! The range on the tone pots is unbelievable, but you don"t lose that cut when your roll the tone all the way off. The volume is a smooth taper and the feedback is under control! I really like this product and most likely will drop them in all my guitars.
Leaves a lot to be desired
Very loose pots - excessive play which basically equals noise. Switch does not stay in position and very easily can be bumped to center. All in all it is very cheap feeling and does not retro fit all SG's. If you have an older model (mine is a 73) be prepared to modify your control cavity so the switch and input jack reach all the way through and can be properly adjusted. The redeeming factors are the caps and the really nice soldering job, but for this money you might as well buy the caps yourself and either do your own wiring of bring it to a tech. Not impressed.
What a difference
Just installed this kit in a 2005 SG custom. My soldering skills are decent from working on cars but I had NEVER done any guitar wiring. This piece dropped in like it wanted to be there. Clean layout made soldering the grounds/pickups a cinch. Oh did I mention the guitar sounds awesome and the dreaded "don't let go of the bridge" hum is gone? Highly recommend buying this kit for your repair/upgrade projects.
Unleash the Beast!!!
You ever play your amplifier with a blanket covering it? Then you take the blakent off and hear the true tone of your amp? That's what it feels like with this kit. Puts those circuit board wiring harness to shame that Gibson uses now adays. I swapped this out in my 2016 Standard that has 57s (which I also sawpped in to try to liven up the sound) and my Gibson SG has come to life! Also the volume controls are usable with the way it is wired as it is in 50s wiring as opposed to modern wiring. O find there is less treble roll off when you turn down the volume which makes the configuration very usable for me.
And like always, thank you Sweetwater and thank you Christian Good for having my order out on Friday and to my door step this morning (Monday) . You will hear from me again!
Emerson Custom
Quality that exceeds all expectations. Period.
Upgrade your SG
I installed this in a Faded Worn Brown SG with one of those PC board controls. This Emerson kit makes the guitar sound oh so much better. Better sustain, way better harmonics and it just makes the pickups come alive. I would recommend this for any SG guitar that you have. Take that PC board thing out of your guitar and put this in and hear what you have been missing. This kit has the '50's wiring that made the older Gibsons sound so good.
Fantastic worthwhile upgrade
I installed this kit into my 2016 SG Standard (also purchased from Sweetwater). Compared to the stock circuit board harness (eww!), this kit really made my SG roar. It also has a lot less treble loss when rolling volume back, as well as doing a better job of cleaning up a gainy amp tone for quieter passages.
Highly recommended!
Well done!
Dropped this set in my 2000 SG Special, brought it back to life! Louder, more lows, highs and feel! Kind of like taking a blanket off your speaker cab.... easy installation. Would not hesitate to buythis kit for any guitar.
What a Difference!
Installed in a 2011 SG, replaced stock coil tap pots. Much smoother volume curve, less noise and way better sound. Breathed new life into the guitar - highly recommend.
Emerson custom SG
A must for the PCB board models from Gibson.
easy install
ordered this for my 2016 gibson sg standard which had the pcb in it. it took about 20 minutes to install, pluged into my amp and what a sound difference! everything top notch! should be the last change out for a long time.
Easy!
Dropped right in....no problem and definitely made the SG sound better!
