Reviews

Rock solid
Does what it says on the box and looks good doing it. Took a while to get everything set up, of course, wiring took a while, checking connections, etc... but once I got the patchbay labels from Black Lion's site, printed 'em out, and labeled everything... now my studio just works like it's supposed to and I have complete patching freedom. I've got no downtime or loss of musical inspiration because of time lost in re-connecting stuff.

Seems well-built for the price!
Looks fantastic, but jacks feel cheap and sticky, and there is no good way to label this thing
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in this one. I had high hopes because Black Lion's stuff is generally great quality and design, and it looks really awesome for a patchbay with the sleek black & gold. I know it's cheaper than a Switchcraft, but I was still expecting premium quality for the price.

However, I'm surprised how cheap and "sticky" the jacks feel. I tried various bantam TT cables and they are really difficult to push in, and almost even more difficult to pull out. Every time I keep thinking I'm going to damage my TT cables which if you're here, you already know TT cables are not cheap. All in all, these jacks feel cheap and like corners were cut somewhere, and I really dislike the way cables just kinda feel stuck.

By comparison, I also have a Redco TT patchbay, and those jacks are super smooth and premium, and surprisingly, that patchbay is more affordable, at $. However, unfortunately Sweetwater does not carry Redco (I wish they would!).

One last thing which was kind of bugging me, the unit comes with these tiny labels you're surprised to write on. I don't know about you, but when it comes to labelling a patchbay, especially anything which might be a single channel, I don't have the tiny and precise penmanship required to make that work. I looked into buying label paper to print on, but even then you're still going to have to run a lot of measurements and trial & error to get it to line up correctly. I know this is minor but I like to be able to label my patchbays with an organized and professional look. All other 96 TT patchbays on the market (Switchcraft, Redco, Bitree, Audio Accessories) come with a strip cover and you can download excel spreadsheets from manufacturers which are precisely designed for each unit, making it super easy to map out your studio, print, cut, and slide it in, ready to go without any fuss measuring and dealing with stickers or residue etc.

I had emailed Black Lion support asking if they have a spreadsheet prepared for this patchbay which I could use to create labels, and they did not respond. I take it no, you're meant to handwrite yourself onto tiny labels.
