Excellent little mic
I bought these on the recommendation of a soundtech pro I know. We needed them to mic orchestral instruments for a Christmas program, and then I turned around the next week and used the same mics for our children's choir Christmas musical. The mics worked awesomely in both contexts. no regrets with the purchase, and I plan on purchasing more of the same if we need additional mics in the future.
Shure KSM137
This is an outstanding pair of condensers having replaced my sE Electronics SE8 mics which I used for roughly five years. These Shures have a flatter frequency response, more accurate transients, and the low-end is impressive. The included A27M Mounting bar is perfect for me as I mount these in XY configuration 36" above my snare. A great package!
Great overhead pair!!
These are a great pair for drum overheads; simple yet utilitarian! Built in pad and HPF work like a charm. I'm just a bedroom studio guy, but these will forever be in my mic locker as I move forward in life.
Did not last
I bought these in 2018. The first set was DOA; I had to return them and get a new set. The new set lived solely in my climate-controlled studio. They were never dropped or anything similar. All of the sudden, these stopped working. Do yourself a favor -- buy the Audio-Technica AT4041.
KSM137
Fantastic.
Great Choice
I love my KSM 137's. I've been getting great results using them as overhead mics. I like how flat they are and how versatile they can be. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a matched set of overhead mics for under $1000.
So far..excellent
So far I've only mic'd a hi hat with one, and bottom of a snare with the other and was SUPER happy with the results. Can't wait to get them on guitar and piano.
Versatile, Beautiful Stereo Imaging
The KSM137s are excellent mics for pretty much any source you throw at it: OHs, Acoustics, vocals, hats, etc.
It's a stereo pair for a reason: because it sounds absolutely amazing. XY, AB, you name it the image is going to be accurate and pristine sounding. I highly recommend recording with the windscreens to keep the harshness down on the HF side of things, it's more balanced that way.
As always, if you're tracking something loud with these, make sure to adjust the pad! If you don't own a pair of these, you're missing out on some of the best Live/Studio mics on the planet. Anything shines with this pair!
The versatile little Shure KSM137
This is my third purchase of pairs of Shure KSM137s. By far the most versatile mic I've ever owned. It's great for extreme X-Y recording, and the new bracket is amazing. And separately, I use them for just about everything: violins, violas, acoustic guitar, percussion, harp, xylophone, vibes and marimba, congas, overheads and hihat.
With the wide frequency and dynamic range, they can do just about anything, with no distortion and a crisp clean high end. I do a lot of live and studio work. On a club gig, they didn't have a suitable kick drum mic. I gave it a try. The subwoofers really got a workout. I even use it with a good windscreen for voiceover work. With the 137's tight pattern, it gets the job done when in a less than ideal studio atmosphere.
