Great Idea, Poor Execution

By Steven R.

This is a textbook example of "Why Is Everything Made So Cheaply?"

I bought two of these 4 years ago in 2021. It wasn't all that long afterward that one of them came apart at a gig. The tiny spring inside it got lost and that was that. Sweetwater, being Sweetwater (loving you guys) replaced the stand. Now I have three... or actually two and a half... barely. And now another one of the stands is acting up because the tiny spring is not doing its job. That leaves me with one.

Oh - and then there was the time I set my guitar down on the stand - a brand new 000-28 Martin - and because I missed the cradle, I cracked the lower bout on the up pointing hard-as-a-plastic-holepunch grips.

What we need is a stand that costs a little more, but is durable, stable, and lightweight. I really liked the folding feature of these, but that was about the only good feature.

Ultralight & Compact

By Sweetwater Customer from MN
Music Background: I've been a solo musician for the past 26 years. Trying new gear and keeping weight down from handling is good when your getting older.

I got tired of lugging around a 2 guitar stand up guitar stand until I saw these . Now I pack 2 in my gig box and it takes up hardly any space.
Holds my acoustic and an electric guitar on stage perfectly. Great investment.

Devin Cunningham best sales rep hands down!!!

By Donald W. from TOLEDO, OH

Folds up about the size of a woman's wallet. I bought 4 of these. Best portable guitar stand I have ever had! Solid bodies and acoustic.

By John F. from BROKEN ARROW, OK

These stands are awesome! Fold down perfectly to fit in my case while going to lessons. Good quality product. Highly recommend.

I don’t regret buying it but…

By Sweetwater Customer

It wont be ideal for every guitar. In my case, my strat has Schafer strap locks, and I noticed recently that the lock hits the ground when I put the guitar on the stand. I do wish it was a bit higher off the ground. With that being said, I really like the stand for the fact that I can stick it in the gig bag and off I go. If I need a second one for portability purposes I will not hesitate to buy another one. But it would be nice to see it improved.

Don’t use it on a new nitro guitar

By Thomas H. from Scottsdale, AZ

Just after a couple of days using one it's marred the back of the body and it won't rub out. Very disappointed.

Unstable and cheap

By Dustin N. from Oakland, CA

I hate writing negative reviews but I feel obligated to warn people that this is an extremely cheap, plastic, flimsy stand that is totally unstable. I put my guitar on it and didn't even feel comfortable leaving the room. Hercules makes good stuff so this is really disappointing but save your money and guitar. I threw mine in the garbage.

Love Hercules's other stands...just not this one

By Franklin from Dayton, OH
Music Background: 40 years playing guitar

I'm a longtime fan of Hercules's other stands--we own a half dozen other ones for guitars and other instruments. This stand is great for portability, but I would be very careful putting any thing heavy on it as I have found it to be not very stable. After a couple of mishaps, I use it only for ukuleles and other light instruments.

Perfect guitar stand!!

December 15, 2023

works great!

By Jim from SWTX
Music Background: Old guy learning new tricks

I've owned a pair of these for 3-4 years now. They unfold into a sturdy stand that locks into place. The feet have guides that allow my acoustic guitars to fit, but also my Strat. Never, ever a problem with a guitar, with a cable plugged in or not, sliding side to side or falling over the back side (that scared me at first as all my other stands are higher in the back). I have other stands that absolutely drive me crazy. There's no way to pick up a guitar with either a strap or cable because one or both is gonna get wrapped around the legs or back. I like taller stands, but this one folds up and fits in the pocket of my Taylor hard gig bag along with capo, strings, slide, picks, you name it. I was on Sweetwater's web page looking for another one and decided to read the reviews and was surprised at some of the negative reviews (somebody stepped on it so they gave the stand a bad review because it broke!!). While I am not a gigging musician and therefore cannot speak to using it on stage, it is perfect for my little studio space at home. There are two right now surrounding my chair with hollow body guitars sitting on them with complete confidence they WILL NOT MOVE from the stand. Even my wife's cats (I don't have cats, she does) haven't knocked them over.

Horrible product

By Jordan C.
Music Background: Gigging Musician

The idea is great in theory, horrible in practice. I ordered 2 of these for gigging, and when practicing at home I tried it out. Set my standard strat on the stand gently and made sure it was sturdy. I left the room for about 5 minutes and come back in to notice my guitar laying flat on the ground, the stand halfway folded up. It just slips right off. Same for my tele and acoustic. I cannot trust this stand at all, if it had been my les paul that fell over, it would have no doubt broken the headstock off. Too cheap and too good to be true. Do not recommend even for a beginner. Buy an onstage standard guitar stand for cheaper than this junk.

Nice for the price!

By Morgan T. from Bucyrus, OH
Music Background: Gigging musician for the better part of 15+ years in my free time.

I purchased two of these for a nice quick portable guitar stand for practice space and gigs. They are very compact and easy to set up and can store nicely in the rear of my combo amp. I mainly put two styles of guitars on these so far: Gibson Les Pauls and Martin OM style guitars. Both these body styles fit nicely. Would definitely recommend.

Disappointing

By Paul G. from Waitsburg, WA

I got the small Hercules stand for electric guitar - love it. Ordered this packable stand for acoustic. Didn't realize it's completely different. All plastic for one thing. Ugly for another. Almost impossible to open and close for a third. All I wanted was the same as the electric stand with slightly wider base.

Great guitar stand…and more!

By Kyle from Chico, CA

Good stability, small footprint, and super portable. Works equally well on both electric and acoustic. Quality construction you expect from Hercules. Liked it so much that I bought a second just to have around.

Pro Tip: Also works great as an amp stand!! (see pic)

Love it

By Luis
Music Background: Gigging musician

Don`t know why other reviewers said that this stand is made of cheap plastic and their guitars fell to the ground. Been using this stand for more than 3 years now and none of my guitars including my PRS wood Library custom 24 had fallen. It has been rock solid and definitively not made from cheap plastic. I recommend it 100%.

Not for bass guitars

By Walt from Ithaca, NY
Music Background: Bass guitar, 40 years?

Seems to work well enough for guitar or acoustic, but basses are a little too big for it. Though it folds in an ingenious way, there is a lack of support in between the two legs. Also it leans back to far, I would prefer the instrument to be standing more vertically

One of my all-time favorite accessories

By Todd from Northern Virginia
Music Background: Composition student, musician, teacher, engineer

This thing folds up smaller and is much lighter than I thought it would be, but it's extremely sturdy. When folded, it fits in the outer pocket of my Cordoba gig bag, with plenty of room for my guitar support and other accessories. When unfolded, it's at least as solid as any other stand. Unfolding and folding it are both very easy and there's no cheapness about this stand, other than how affordable it is.

Even though I own a Hercules French horn stand (and love it), I was really surprised at how great this extremely portable and also extremely stable stand is.

I want to love it, but never put a guitar you value on this.

By Rick from Murrieta, CA

The idea of this stand is amazing! The engineering is solid. The way it folds up and fits in a gig bag / backpack is really genius.

The problem is every acoustic guitar I have ever put on this stand has fallen off of it. Not just me. The other guitarist in my trio put his Taylor on this stand and it fell in about 20 seconds. My instructor put his Alverez on it and in less than a minute I was lunging across the room to keep it from crashing on the floor.

They fall sideways. Is there some trick to this stand that keeps your guitars from falling off of it?

Works great

By TODD P. from Annapolis, MD

I go to a friends house weekly to play guitar and these are great travel stands. They hold the guitar well, are sturdy, lightweight, and fold up well fitting in my backpack.

While I would not use them at home as traditional guitar stands are more secure, these work great if you need something portable to travel with.

Terrible and Dangerous

By Alan R. from AUSTIN, TX
Music Background: Guitarist, Composer, Booker

This stand is absolutely terrible. Cheap plastic and not easy to carry around when folded up. Most importantly, it's very unstable for classical or acoustic guitars which are not held securely and easily slip sideways. One of my classical guitars was gently nudged and instantly fell over. The headstock landed straight to the ground and one of the tuning machines broke clean off. The instability had been worrying me for a few weeks and I should have replaced this with a better quality stand. Now I've paid the price for not listening to the warning signs with this stand.

Awful––do yourself a favor and get something better.

Hercules Guitar Stand

By BP

Excellent stand. Been using for 6m+ for weekly shows for both electric and acoustic without issue. Folds up small enough to fit in a gig bag, opens big enough to hold any electric or big dread style acoustic due to it's design. Great price, too. Highly recommend.

I love that this is light and folds flat and small. It doesn't work with basses that are plugged in if theyhave a jack on the side rather than on the top, evens with a right angle plug.

Hercules is excellent

By Mark B. from Washington, DC
Music Background: Recording artist

Hercules makes great stands, and I needed something to hold my Gretsch doubleneck. As small as this looks, it's really stable and will hold any guitar on stage without tangling you up. Folds up nicely. Almost idiot-proof.Just ordered another for my SG doubleneck.

Engineering genius

By Mike

I've had two of these for about a year With plenty of gigs using acoustic and electric guitars. The way this light and compact stand pops open to hold any traditionally shaped guitar (no floor stand fits my firebird well) is awesome. At first I was concerned about durability as it is plastic and almost weightless but I've been tossing them around and otherwise abusing them for awhile now and no sign of wear. Is it as stable as a large heavy folding stand? Probably not but those are different animals with different trade offs. I've never had a guitar come close to falling. Also price is great.

Great for some strings but not all.

By Robert L. from Grove City, OH

I ordered two of these and they are nice, definitely small and fits in gig bag without a problem. Two large gears under the upside down V shape back allows quick opening of the legs. The yellow stops are on a gear so when you place the acoustic on it, they gently push out of the way. My title great for some strings but not all is true. The limitations you will have is any instrument with a offset shape. My PRS SE single cut fits, my fender acoustic fits, any instrument with a round or somewhat flat bottom will fit but for example the Fender Jazz bass with its offset bottom does not so that is the one problem with this stand. I assume due to how low it is V-shape guitars and Randy Rhodes guitar will not fit either. Conclusion nice handy stand for those moments you need compact mobility but not good for offset shapes and V shapes.

Great Compact Stand

By Blano from New England
Music Background: Frequent Flyer

I’ve had these for going on two years now. I’ve used them for bass guitars and no matter which bass I’ve placed in them, these cool little stands have done their jobs well. Truth be told, you sacrifice a little stability for size, but I had an excited guitar player step right on one of these stands while he was playing just last weekend and the stand didn't even flinch. The reason I bought these was their size - I have the locking Hercules stands also and admittedly they are more stable - however - for traveling a lot and gigs, you can’t really beat the tiny rectangle these fold up into. I’ve also found the bigger Hercules stands leave black marks where they suspend the necks on my basses and the plastic becomes sticky over time. I haven’t had that problem with these little dudes yet. I’m more than willing to take an extra few seconds to make sure my guitar is firmly sitting in this stand which slips easily into a pocket in my case or gig bag instead of a bulkier stand. Cheers!

Acoustic with pick up is not stable

By Brian F. from Greeley, CO

My wife and I perform about 6 to 8 times a month. She has a Gretsch Ukulele with an internal pickup and I have a Martin DM with a Martin internal pickup.
The jack / cable comes out through the guitar strap hole. We both have a Hercules GS200B stand.
I had to add Waxman Steel Non-Swivel Furniture Glides because the jack / cable coming out of the bottom of our instruments made her Ukulele and my guitar unstable.
The addition of the Waxman furniture glides lifted the front enough to correct the problem.
Unplugged I would give it a 5 rating.

Transformer Design and Compact

By Brian F. from Greeley, CO
Music Background: Singer / Songwriter

My wife and I (Two Bee's) perform 5 to 10 times a month and we're having a blast. My wife plays a Gretsch ukulele and I play a Martin guitar. We carry our hardware speaker stands, sheet music stands, mic stands, stage monitor stand and guitar stands in a hard case golf club travel bag with wheels. We bought it at a yard sale for $15. A great investment.
The old guitar stands were typical metal and bulky. The Hercules Stands are very sturdy, compact and they don't get tangled in the jungle of other hardware. The other thing I like about the Hercules is my guitar and my wife's Uke neck straps don't get snagged on the guitar stands anymore. The old metal ones were a nuisance in that respect. The neck strap and guitar chord would get snagged on the old metal guitar stand and fall over. This doesn't happen with the Hercules stands. Being an engineering freak, I love the transformer design. Definitely 5 stars.

Surprised in a good way!

By Scott K. from BOULDER, CO
Music Background: Guitar player & builder

For a stand that can actually fit into a guitar case it is really stable! I don"t worry about my Martin D-18 Authentic being ruined or any of my electric guitars (except the V lol) as it can take a bump or even the rumble of some stages and the guitar is safe. I"m going to pick up 2 more they work so well.

Fits Tele perfect

By Bob from San Diego
Music Background: Classic Rock. Really good at it 'cause I played 'em when they were on the Top Ten!

More solid than other stands. Tele jack fits perfect! No more leaning the git dangerously so jack won't hit the skid. Wanna have some fun? Give it to your drummer to figure out how to open it! It'll keep him busy for hours.

Quick n Easy

By David S. from TX

I purchased two of these for an event I was doing with my band. Used one on stage and one at a secondary location. These things are sturdy and hold my Breedlove 12 and even my Ovation Celebrity 12 perfectly. They even fit into my soft guitar bag storage pocket. Highly recommend you try one. I have but one issue, watch your shirt when you close them up. I have a new hole in my t-shirt :)

Holds Everything,Folds Up And Goes Everywhere

By Ken O.

Not for live gig settings, but perfect everywhere else. Folds up and fits inside my Strat hardshell case or in the pocket of padded bass guitar case. Has a bit of wobbly to it with headstock heavy instruments, otherwise it is great for Les Pauls,Strats, and full bodied acoustics. One star off for sitting too low, must un-plug guitar before sitting on the stand, and that wobbly factor. A 5 Star rating if used for acoustic guitar, say in the living room, your den, etc. It helps show off your awesome guitar. Unique and high quality build, no cheap design here!

Perfect for studio

By David from Akron, OH
Music Background: Singer-songwriter, music teacher

Needed something for the studio in addition to our 2 Hercules wall hangers. This is perfect and a great price. Not sure I'd trust it at gigs--will still use Hercules stands there. But for quick access in the studio this unit is great. And it as good as disappears when you told it up.

Not sturdy

By Joaquin from Texas
Music Background: Gigging musician. 25 yrs. playing.

I bought this stand trusting in the Hercules brand, but was sadly disappointed when I took it to a gig. Because of the uneven wooden floor of the stage, this stand slid easily and my Custom Gibson Les Paul would not stay straight. I felt it was going to slide off the stand. Too much risk fof me to take. I will be purchasing a metal one and will give this plastic one to a beginner family member. If you have serious gear, this stand is not for you!!

Great design, light & easy to pack, but mind the cable gap

By Nic from California
Music Background: Empassioned Amateur

This is a solid design, made of strong light-weight material and so compact I just leave it in my guitar case to pop out wherever I may need it.

However, I was a bit surprised that when deployed, it does not leave enough room at the bottom for a plugged-in regular guitar cable to clear the floor. So I unplug the guitar-end of the cable before committing it to the stand. Minor annoyance but something to consider.

Rounding Cape Horn with a Stout Stand

By Teejay R. from Lisle IL
Music Background: Vast and Varied

This GS200B is a nice little stand - and I give it SERIOUS props for being almost-perfectly engineered in terms of overall function and construction. It is not some cheap little thing, it's really well built. I like it because it'll drop into just about any little pouch on my soft guitar cases, so I'm ready to go on a moments' notice.

Those little yellow clips "look" fussy, but are completely simple in operation - if you set an acoustic on the stand, they retract to give the guitar room. If an electric, they pop up to grip the body. Spring-loaded - you never need to touch them. At first, I was put-off by the glaring yellow color of the clips, until one night on a dark stage, awash with beer and other inebriatives, I suddenly understood *that* engineering decision.

Being some sort of semi-soft, rubberized heavy plastic, it is easy to clean off, after such events. Wipe it down with a cotton towel, Windex and then water, and then dry it and apply a touch of 3-in-1 to the metal hinges. (Some of these shows were like rounding Cape Horn on a tall ship in a headwind - the beer was blowing sideways!)

Something that NO stand-maker seems to understand, is that probably 70% or better of today's acoustic / electric guitars have their output jack where the strap pin is. As a result, if you set a plugged-in acoustic down, pay attention to that cable - there is insufficient height on the lower riser of the stand to accommodate that. The simple fix is just to get a guitar cable with a right-angle plug. I wouldn't even mention it, but I don't want *your* Taylors tumbling-over on *my* watch. You have been warned!

Minus a half-star for that, but no reason not to get a couple!
