PAR-style LED Lighting Fixture with 180 x LEDs (39 Red, 39 Green, 51 Blue, 51 Amber), Built-in Programs, Sound-activation Mode, and ILS Integration

Sweetwater is quick to recommend Chauvet DJ fixtures to seasoned lighting designers and those new to the trade, given the company's trustworthy performance and rugged designs. The EZpar 64 RGBA ILS fixture is equipped with 180 RGBA LEDs to provide stunning color and powerful illumination to any event. This battery-powered fixture is easy to travel with and quick to set up — it can last up to 20 hours on a single charge. The red, green, and blue LEDs are accompanied by amber to create even punchier saturation and enhanced color options. A 15-degree beam angle makes this fixture a fantastic go-to wash light. Other features like its ILS compatibility with the ILS ecosystem and D-Fi USB compatibility make it a breeze to integrate into existing systems and control. Users can operate the EZPar 64 RGBA ILS with standard DMX control through the ILS ecosystem or via the included IRC remote. Make no mistake, the EZPar 64 RGBA ILS is a reliable wash fixture — and one that cuts down on the cable tangle!

Decent, But Expensive

By Sweetwater Customer

I currently own four of these fixtures, and have for roughly a year at the time I'm writing this review, so I'll lay out my pros, my cons, and my recommendations knowing what I know now.

Pros

* Battery Powered - If you're unfamiliar with, or new to the world of lighting, you'll find that the IEC cables used to power these types of lights can be an unsightly nuisance in the best of scenarios. They're thick, and often times very rigid, and don't conceal always easily, so a lighting fixture devoid of the need for power cables is certainly a plus. Not to mention, it can give a lot more flexibility when placing said fixtures, especially in tighter spaces.

* Remote - An IRC-6 remote control comes standard, adding to the convenience this fixture already provides with being battery powered. This remote also eliminates the need for a DMX board, and by extension, DMX cables, though this can limit your color palette as you won't really be able to mix the colors as adequately if you're going for a more specific look.

* Size & Weight - Despite having a built-in battery, this light is very nicely compact, and not very heavy. In fact, by comparison to its outlet powered counterpart, the SlimPAR 64, it's exactly the same size, and dimensions, and only weighs a little more.

CONS

* Price - At over $ a piece, a rig made up of these fixtures is going to get real pricey real quick, something you definitely need to consider before committing to buying.

* Colors - While decently bright for a battery-powered fixture, the warmer colors in particular can look quite dull in comparison to more powerful fixtures, especially whites, and yellows. Unless you use a DMX board/program, the stock colors may leave more to be desired.

MY RECOMMENDATION

If you don't mind a setup with power cables, but don't want to mess with a DMX board, I recommend using ONE of these lights as the "master" fixture, then comprising the rest of your rig of SlimPAR 64 fixtures. Functionally, and aesthetically, they're the same exact light, except the EZPAR is battery powered, and remote controllable. You can then daisy-chain the SlimPAR fixtures from the EZPAR via DMX cables, and have control of all the fixtures with the IRC-6 remote. This will limit you to more simple displays, but convenience comes at a cost. The SlimPARs being roughly HALF the price of the EZPAR will also significantly lighten the strain building your lighting rig will have on your wallet.

FINAL THOUGHTS

While I love that this light is significantly brighter than most battery-powered fixtures, and does eliminate the necessity for annoying, and unsightly cables, it is very pricey, and is fairly limited in what it can do on its own without the assistance of a DMX board/program. Unless you're made of money, and are hardset on having a completely wireless rig, I'd say maybe go a different route. The photo I've provided is of the four fixtures I have uplighting my band's banner rack.
