They're OK

By Anthony M. from ACWORTH, GA
Music Background: live sound guy

They're not bad, by any means. They just don't have the headroom and clarity I was hoping for. If your stage is quieter than mine, then these will do fine for 1/3rd the price of an RCF NX12-SMA. My stages tend to be too loud for these to work well for me.

Plenty of headroom!

By Dan from New Jersey
Music Background: Lead vocal & guitar

We are using two of these monitors in our practice studio for our four piece band. All our members (especially our drummer) can hear what's going out through our PA and the volume is still less than 1/2 of what's available. No hum, no buzz, just clean sound. Can't wait to use them live!

Big Sound

By Sweetwater Customer

These monitors don't take up a lot of space on stage and the sound is very clean and clear. If I had to do it all over I would buy these Yamaha monitors again. Very pleased with the Sound and Quality of my purchase. The Monitors even arrived a day earlier than expected.
Thank you Sweetwater

Yamaha Monitors "Always the best"

By Shawn from Pleasant Hill California
Music Background: 40+ years gigging musician as a side job.

I purchased a set of 2 for my live sound, I ended up using them also in home studio also,
Great sound, compact, easy to use, rugged. I have passive Yamaha monitors that have served my for 30+ years
I expect the same from these. I like the 12in as it is more compact

We love these monitors

By Sean C. from GROVE CITY, PA
Music Background: FoH sound engineer for an outdoor venue

These sound so clear and crisp and have surprisingly full range for 12's. We've been getting lots of good comments about them from musicians using them at our venue. Feedback has been basically nonexistent due to the predictable frequency response from all directions. The DSP options are simple and useful and not overly complex or contrived like many of these powered wedges tend to be. Not to mention they're attractive, well built, and compact. I do have two small complaints: the design of the knobs on the back seems prone to damage, should they get stepped on or bumped; and also, I wish there was powercon in (and thru) rather than a traditional IEC power socket, which could get pulled out easily during a performance. A soft bag storage option would be really nice too.

Great wedge

By Tom M. from Maui, Hawaii

The DHR12M is the perfect form factor for a wedge on tight stages. It sounds great straight out of the box and is LOUD. Took 4 of these on their first gig and I was really impressed with how easy they were to setup and it takes EQ well. Looking forward to a long future with these boxes.

Yamaha DHR12M

By Scott E. from Naples, FL
Music Background: Gigging musician

I just used this monitor for the first time at an outdoor gig. I was extremely pleased with the focused sound quality, clarity at higher volume and absolutely no feedback issues. I use a Shure Beta 58A mic and placed the monitor directly behind the mic, even though I understand that a 120 degree offset is advised with a super cardioid mic. I ran some lower level signals from two guitars, bass and drums through this, as well as vocals. I must say this monitor far exceeded the performance of the JBL Eon and Yamaha DBR speakers we had previously used for monitors. All band mates were equally impressed. I have used IEM's and find that I like them for solo or duo gigs, but not for full band gigs.
I consider this a quality monitor, worth the price. A thank you to my rep Evan Mehr for excellent customer service. That is precisely why I continue to use Sweetwater!

Great floor monitor

By Carl

I have a Bose L1Pro8 that I couldn't hear myself when playing with others going thru a Yamaha mixer, so I bought this as a floor monitor. You can use this as a stand alone speaker with a mixer as it is loud for small venues. Love it; recommend it. I have it hooked to a Yamaha 12 channel mixer and it is great. Highly recommend it.

Great FRFR monitor

By Bob from WA
Music Background: 58 yrs gigging, recording, teaching guitar so far...

Have had less than 24 hrs, sothis is a first impression, which I will update after I've got enough time in to do so.

Fit and finish is great. Using with a Fractal FM-3T, and it is definitely a fine monitor. Deathly silent at idle, jet-engine loud when turned up. Little to no coloration other than the unavoidable Fletcher-Munson effect, and the tone doesn't change with volume. Using FOH mode, with 100 hz highpass engaged.

I've used the Fractal with a Headrush 108, an EV PXM-12P, in stereo with a Mesa 50/50 and 2 1-12 Mesa cabs (cab sim off), and in stereo with a QSC GX amplifier and 2 JBL G730 cabs. So far, the DHR12M sounds as good or better than any of these, and is stunningly clear. The coax speaker avoids audible phasing and crossover artifacts. Very very similar to the EV PXM, a bit less DSP, but in theory, I don't want the speaker to "interpret" the signal, just amplify it, so irrelevant to me. No resonances whatsoever at any volume I could stand. Unbelievable volume when needed, and never sounds strident or overworked.

BIG clarity in a small box

By Matthew M. from Newton Falls, OH
Music Background: Worship leader, event DJ, hobbyist

I used to use DXR10s for my floor wedges. I don't like the way they sit. That is, I was always worried they would tip over easily into the wrong position. Also, a certain part of the midrange spectrum seemed to be missing from the otherwise terrific sound.

The DHR12M solves both of those issues. It is rock solid sitting on the floor as a 57 degree monitor that is as accurate as reproducing sound as my studio HS5 monitors, but does it with 129 DB spl! The bass is better than expected. Nice and tight (so far). The midrange is perfect: no gaps hi to low to my ears. The rear panel is familiar as I have DXR and DBR speakers. The plywood cab is of high quality. The footprint is terrific. Compact for a 12. I believe this to be a phenomenal floor wedge active speaker monitor that can be used for a FOH application. The coaxial design is a hit for me!

Great Speaker and great company...

By Rob D.
Music Background: 40 Years of Professional gigging....

I have bought 2 of these now and I am loving the coaxial speaker system. The sound is clear and correct throughout the frequency spectrum. I am using these for my Fractal FM9T and also as my FOH for my acoustic show. If you are on the fence buying this, buy it, you will have no regrets. Just remember, as all speakers do, you need at least about 30 hours of break-in to take the stiffness out of the cones. And Sweetwater delivered this very quickly. Another great buy through Sweetwater.

Best Compact Speaker I've Ever Heard

By Jireh from Chicago
Music Background: Live Sound Engineer

These are truly incredible-sounding speakers. the clarity and transparent response is unmatched at this price point. My only wish is that they made a bigger version of this when you need a bit more power.

This loudspeaker continues the tradition of Yamaha quality production and brilliant design. The simple and flexible controls along with the physical configuration make this suitable for monitor or FOH applications.

Yamaha 1000W powered wedge monitors

By Greg from Minnesota
Music Background: guitarist, composer, audio engineer.

I searched for a powerful, mobile monitor speaker with a quality reputation. I have been exposed to studios, live sound enviroments and home studios. Yamaha has a positive rep for building a powerful quality product. I purchased 2 cause I'm back into playing live and the other guitarist in my band had smaller monitors that couldn't cut it when we needed vocals to get thru the sound level we are playing at. I have never been disappointed with paying a little more for quality that lasts.

Exceeds my expectations

By Sweetwater Customer

I got 1 of these a few months ago to try as a live bass guitar amp and have been extremely impressed. Lots of low end and power, light weight and can be used in monitor or vertical positions. 1 unit has been enough for all but 1 very loud situation, so I got a second one for that rehearsal. With 2 stacked it's super loud, lots of low end but still tight and cuts through. But most of the time I only need 1 and Of course a preamp is needed for bass or guitar. I've also used it as a stage monitor while playing drums at gigs. Everyone is impressed and asks what I'm playing through, including a pro sound guy that got some for his company after hearing mine live. I didn't buy from sweet water but only because they didn't have any available yet at the time I needed it
