Yamaha DBR15 1000W 15 inch Powered Speaker Reviews

1,000W Bi-amplified Active Speaker with 15" LF Driver, 1.4" HF Driver, Onboard Mixer, and DSP (each)

The Yamaha DBR15 15" active speaker is able to withstand a whopping 132dB SPL, while still delivering an accurate, controlled performance. Using the latest DSP, Yamaha applied their proprietary FIR-X tuning to optimize the sound and protection algorithms of the DBR15, giving you plenty of muscle, despite this active speaker's rather diminutive size. Incredibly versatile, you can use the DBR15 as a great-sounding main speaker or as a high-performance floor monitor with a quick flick of the Yamaha DBR15 15" active speaker's D-Contour switch. A switchable highpass filter also makes it easy for you to add a subwoofer to your rig. Sweetwater has put together countless live systems over the past three decades, so give us a call. We'll be glad to help you out!

Killer Sound

By Joshua U. from Troy, MI
Music Background: Regular Pub Crawing Guitarist

My band has been lugging these beauties around for almost 2 years without a hitch! They sound great, plenty loud and really don't even need a sub-woofer with as much power and low end they have. Great setup for live bands. Band plays country, rock, and pop tunes. Never a complaint on our sound.

Yamaha DBR15"

By Rick H. from North Carolina
Music Background: Play in all ukulele band

Great PA speakers with all the horsepower my 5 piece ukulele band needs. With a bass uke playing and a foot bass in percussion's they really have great bottom end while still being very clean. Would have been a 5 star rating except for one missing feature... there's no way to tighten the speaker on the monitor tripod, it's free to spin. If you are on flat ground this shouldn't be a problem but when playing outside sometimes you don't have flat, and then gravity will aim the speaker "downhill". I remedied with a couple wraps of electrical tape on the tripod pole to make them a snugger fit, but a simple hand screw in bolt (like on most other speakers with a pole mount) would have been great. So close to perfect!

Uh-huh

By Don from IN
Music Background: Musician, Soundman

I'd been in the market for some new fronts for some time. I've heard live shows with QSC k series and JBL prx systems and fell in love with the clarity and punch of those brands but being a po-boy from Indiana I couldn't take the plunge and throw that kind of money down on my sound rig. I run sound for a local band in several small to medium venues and needed to clean up my sound on a tight budget. The Yamaha DBR15's exceeded my expectations. They are lightweight and sound really good. Since the upgrade I've recieved several compliments. I would put these in the category between the JBL EON and PRX series. Pricepoint, higher SPL rating, twice as good warranty. I don't have the means to do a side by side comparison but I am over-joyed with this purchase. I've had these for 1 year and not a single hiccup. I would suggest speaker covers as they seems to scar quite easily.

Bought One, then Bought Another

By Jim T. from Vermont
Music Background: Professional Musician/Artist

I've had a small trio for years and sometimes play large spaces - including outdoor venues. I needed something to handle vocals, digital piano, and a mic'ed sax. I researched all available options at various price levels and decided to try one of these in an outdoor event last summer. Gave me all the power and clarity I needed, so I bought another this spring to match it. Just tested it out in a dance hall for an event that I put a five-piece band together for. Totally satisfied with two of these as my main PA. Best bang for the buck I've found.

Exceptional speaker

By Scott
Music Background: Acoustic, full bands, DJing

I bought one of these as an all-in-one solution for solo acoustic gigs. All I need is one speaker on a stick and I'm set. This thing is LOUD and covers a huge amount of space. I use it with a nice acoustic preamp pedal (Boss VE-8) and my guitar/vocals sound fantastic through the DBR15. I will eventually get a second one!

My only complaint is not having the 1/8' RCA as a separate channel. Otherwise I am super happy with my purchase.

Power House for DJ's

By Travis from CA
Music Background: Live sound

The DBR is very powerful speaker. It is more of a DJ speaker.

I would not recommend it for Live sound especially for any one trying to show off originals songs. It is more for pre recorded sound.

It has to much power for small bars or rooms. Someone said just turn it down. It isn't that easy as soon as you turn the volume this speaker is loud.

The cabinet is sturdy but the screen has some give to it that will rattle when turned up.

Conclusion: If you are a DJ who needs power this is your speaker. You can feel its power.
If you are a live band that needs clarity over loud this is not for you.

Nice!

By JV1
Music Background: Old Pro Drummer, singer, DJ

Bought this primarily as an all-in-one Roland Edrum monitor for which I'll give it 4 stars but as a PA speaker, I think it's 5 stars. I take 1 star away for drums simply because it doesn't really go as low of a frequency as I prefer. In contrast, I had tried the Mackie 15 Thump side-by-side with this Yamaha and it goes down to 32 Hertz and definitely thumps out the bass more so than the Yamaha. The Yamaha speaker only goes down to 49 Hertz leaving quite a bit of "thump" missing, however, the Mackie tended to give me the dreaded red light overdrive warning all the time at "real life" drum volumes but the Yamaha at similar volumes never gave the red light warning plus the Yamaha has a 7 year warranty - 7 years??, wow! The Mackie was also nice because it has treble and bass controls while the Yamaha doesn't. I know bass uses lots more power and maybe that's why the Mackie overloaded so much and the Yamaha simply couldn't as it refuses to go real deep. I wish someone made a speaker that combined the good traits of the Yamaha and Mackie - loud, no distortion, deep bass, eq adjustment knobs and a 7 year warranty and maybe Bluetooth and 3 inputs. Maybe some day...
