RapcoHorizon COUGHBLOX In-Line Momentary Mute Switch Reviews
We’ve all experienced the moment when we’re listening to the radio or a podcast and the host coughs into the mic. It tears you away from the story they’re telling you and makes it hard to concentrate. RapcoHorizon has solved that issue with their Cough Blox in-line temporary mute switch. This in-line switch allows you to quickly and discreetly silence your mic signal to let you sneeze, cough, talk to a cohost off the air, and more. This passive box features simple push-button operation, XLR female input, and XLR male output, and it needs no power supply. The RapcoHorizon Cough Blox is a huge quality-of-life improvement for podcasters, streamers, and broadcasters of all types. Call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer to get one yourself.
It does what it claims to do well
Just got the product and tested it. It works well. I wanted to be able to mute when I need to and it does the job without adding any clicking sound. If I touch the whole box, it creates an ambient white noise. What this means is that I shouldn't be holding this product when I use. I should just place it on the desk and press just the plastic button. This doesn't bother me at all.
Simple and effective
This little box is very simple. You just put it in line and the button kills the signal so you can unplug without the loud POP that comes with unplugging. It works. For me, it has been quiet with no sound from depressing the button or unplugging the line. It does what is advertised. I use this for church when I unplug my board to take to the next service. You know, the sound guys have a lot to do at that point than to worry about muting my line.
Does the job but...
This device does the job for me. Press and hold and it effectively mutes my mic, or at least eliminates sound below detectable levels. But engaging the button itself sometimes does introduce a brief and subtle spike of sound to your audio as it cuts off your audio. If you're recording, you may still have to edit out that sound. Not every time for me, but sometimes.
Simple an d Does What it Says
I'm on WebEx most of the day in meetings. When a cough, sneeze, or someone walks into the room, I have the button sitting right there. Quick and easy. No fumbling for a mouse or trying to get to my mic power. Just push, fart, and continue on like it never happened. No click, no nothing, just momentary mute. Wish it was cheaper for what it is, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Metal construction and seems well made.
