I really love the appearance and functionality of this desk! It is super sturdy and strong and have placed a 100watt EVH 5150 head on the top shelf with no worries! This desk could support a lot and is the perfect height!

Great desk for a compact recording/mixing station

By Ryan from New Jersey on April 22, 2021

I had about five or six feet of wall space to work with in my new home recording setup and was looking for a desk that gave ample space, but wasn't too big in the room. This desk has been perfect. It's a bit sturdier than I expected and seems like it will last for a long time. I got some speaker stands to place on either side of the desk and, as you can see, it opens up plenty of room on the desk for instruments and accessories. There's also a good amount of room under the desk for a PC tower and other storage.

Sweetwater has been great and my sales rep, Mason, has been checking in to make sure everything's good. The desk did arrive with a few scuffs and scratches from transit (which I'm sure is the shipping partner's fault, not Sweetwater's), but nothing that affects its structural integrity; in my case, the largest scuffs are hidden under a synthesizer most of the time, anyway.

Great Compact Studio Workstation!

By Pete Bollinger from Shreveport, Louisiana on April 14, 2021 Music Background: Former worship band member and long time guitarist and home studio owner

I have been looking for several months to replace my "computer workstation" that I have used as music studio workspace with something more conducive to my workflow. My son purchased one of these to add to his studio and told me how sturdy and attractive his On-Stage Stands Workstation desk was. It is certainly one of the more affordable options. Since it is designed to be expandable with additional modules, I ordered the basic workstation desk.

It is heavy and pretty heavy duty. The "Z" frame is about as solid as you could want for a serious studio desk. The laminate workspace pieces are heavy and solid. The instructions included and the video online were quite clear about how to best put the unit together. I had no problems until trying to assemble the sliding keyboard drawer. It works beautifully but took some thought and maneuvering to tighten all of the connection points with the included tool. But in the end it came together nicely. It is extremely sturdy and a little roomier than I imagined from the pictures I had seen.

I have two large 20 pound Behringer speaker/monitors and a 24 inch video monitor and I was concerned if this would fit on the top surface of the workstation. As you can see from the included photos it is tight but enough room and capacity to do the job. I was prepared to purchase some monitor stands if it became a problem.

I also purchased the rack mount that usually is installed under the upper surface of the desk. The problem I saw with this arrangement was that it limited placement of my two rack mounted pieces of gear. Instead, I inverted the mount and attached it to a solid piece of wood and placed my power converter and Presonsus Firestudio Project on it. After adding some nylon "feet" I was able to place the gear under the top portion of the workspace where it best suited my need.

I have used the workstation for music production for several weeks now and find it really does work well for the space I have and my workflow. Everything is within reach and comfortable. I am a tall guy over 6 feet and found the adjustable footpads helped to get the unit the right height for sitting comfortably. I use a more ordinary desk chair and not a wheeled "manager's" chair so I had no problems comfortably getting my knees under. I could have raised the unit at least another inch if that had been a problem.

Overall, I am very pleased with this workstation and recommend it to anyone who is looking to upgrade their bedroom/spare room studio. My Sweetwater Rep made the purchase easy and affordable and I will continue to do business with Sweetwater for my studio purchases.

Excellent home studio work station!!

By Todd Parker from San Diego on October 1, 2020

I love this work station. The only thing missing was an excellent leather armless chair to be able to play while sitting down at the workstation. Seriously, this is an awesome value and a great quality piece of furniture that is exactly what I needed.

Practical desk. Easy to assemble.

By Charles Rouse from Leesburg, GA on June 23, 2020 Music Background: Making noise of different sorts for a long time.

This desk is packed well. I had to "roll" it up a flight of metal steps to get it to my second story studio.

It is easy to assemble and is stout.

It is everything you could ask for in a desk of this price. I am pleased.

Incredible Workstation

By Chris Sears from Nashville on June 12, 2020 Music Background: live audio production

I don't know about anyone else, but work flow is incredibly important to me. I hate clutter. I hate things that don't serve a purpose. But I also don't like when something cost $1000 just because its been designated a "studio desk". This desk has a sturdy build and plenty of real-estate, making it flexible for many applications and workstations of different sizes.I did end up getting a wing on one side for a bit more space just so I can keep the center tier open. And again, you cant beat the price. I definitely tried!

Great Desk for Work-At-Home

By Mickey Levine from Redmond, WA on May 21, 2020

I am a musician but do not do production... I was looking for a solid desk for my laptop and two monitors - and this desk is rock solid and works great (especially for the price compared to fancier desks). Only "gotcha" - I was rushing when I put it together and didn't notice there were two different length screws - I accidentally cracked the top when I used the longer screws but I can live with my mistake(s).

Excellent product.

Good quality desk for studio setup. Heavy and sturdy. A bit over priced in my opinion though. One more thing, you will need the corner piece for sure to gain planty room.

Perfect Work Station!

I am actually an illustrator and was in need of a desk that had a good work surface for drawing and painting, that could accommodate my drawing tablet and desktop computer. This desk worked out perfectly! It is just the right size for my small apartment and is very sturdy. I highly recommend this for musicians, graphic designers, and illustrators.

I also want to give a shout out to the company. They offer some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. You guys rock!

Well made

By Bruce from Vermont on July 25, 2019 Music Background: Voice actor

This is a "monster" of workstation. Well made, sturdy and functional. It took a bit longer to assemble. I had to enlarge the pre-drilled holes on several pieces because they were too small for the bolts. Not a big deal. Customer service was the best.

Sturdy, big, beautiful

By Sean Weyers from Denver on January 20, 2019 Music Background: Musician, producer, engineer

This thing is AWESOME. I spent a lot of time looking and the dimensions and measuring the space where it would go, and I "knew" how big it was. It still looks even bigger than I expected. This thing is seriously roomy and quite impressive. I have a 26" computer monitor and PreSonus 3.5" monitors on Auralex pads on the top shelf- plenty of room for the bigger monitors, or another set of small ones. I got the 2U rack accessory, which holds my interface nicely and there's more than enough room under that for my bass pod (another 2U). Additionally, the rest of the desk easily fits an Oxygen49 49-key midi controller, 6-ch Behringer mixer, mouse pad (if it's not on the tray), pens & pencils, and headphones... and it's not even cluttered! The keyboard tray is sturdy and large- I actually keep a second, wireless, keyboard behind my main keyboard, and there is plenty of room for the mouse/pad.
It's heavy (not too heavy to move) and sturdy- just well made. UPS beat it up pretty badly- there was a large hole in the box, even, but it is packed well and weathered the trip with only some small scratches on the metal base- not a big deal at all and they aren't even visible, given their location and lower lighting. This thing is so well made that I'm going to get the extension and 12U rack that match it. Be prepared to spend a little time putting it together- it's not inordinately difficult and doesn't take an unusual amount of time to build, for what it is. Order a pizza, put a movie on, make it fun and take your time. I think it took about an hour to put together, just taking it easy.
You really can't go wrong with this- especially with the price; it really offers a lot of functionality and greatly improved workflow for a minimal cost. Get some good isolation pads for your monitors- you'll thank yourself. Great deal, and a great product. And, of course, you get the legendary Sweetwater customer service.

Perfect desk for me!

Love this desk! Helps so much with my workflow and studio organization. It was a bit challenging and time consuming (1 hour +) to build but in the end it was all worth it. I only had a problem with the keyboard tray trying to fit but with some patience i quickly finished. I ONLY regret not buying the extension to the desk because I could've totally used it, Totally recommend!

By bill from port richey fl. on February 2, 2018 Music Background: novice

bought this in 01/18 and obviously someone has listened to the negative reviews because the item that I got was in perfect shape, except for a couple of small scratches on the metal base on one of the frame sides. the main table and the upper shelf had all thread inserts that receive bolts the sliding keyboard tray has bolts and the barrel nuts as stated in other reviews if you follow the instruction that I got the under shelf is assembled before you assemble the main table to the frame and you watch hoe you put the barrel nuts in the holes you can line them up so that the holes in the nuts will line up with the holes in the shelf sides. the table is very stable and fits perfectly in the space that it was purchased for. the table and shelf is bigger than it looks in the advert. would highly recommend it. total assemble was less than an hour.

Awesome

By M Wampler from San Antonio on January 15, 2018 Music Background: Audio engineer student/musician

After shopping around, reading and dissecting many reviews I went ahead with this On-Stage desk for my in home studio needs. Glad I did! Box was taped well and all the pieces were in excellent shape. One small blemish on one of the keyboard struts but since it is underneath and not visible then out of site, out of mind. The assembly was less then an hour just because I like to take my time and had absolutely no issue at all. Sturdy and well leveled. Great product and absolutely recommended above anything else for in home or small studio area.

Great Affordable Desk

By John Sheehan from Scotia, NY on December 12, 2017

Grading this on the price vs. function scale. Unlike some of the other reviews, I had no issues putting this workstation together. I ordered mine with the 2U undershelf rack. Yes, it's laminate wood, but it's a couple thick and heavy slabs of it - I don't worry about what's on it, and I also have no problem with the keyboard tray - it fits both my keyboard and mouse just fine. If you are using it for anything else, I would reconsider.

Top shelf has enough room for dual 23" computer screens, or a single screen with a couple studio monitors. I actually ended up putting a 4K 50" TV on mine, as I'm now using large FRFR speakers for my needs.

I needed this for a room with tight space, and the design works perfect for me - I can get the legs around an old school radiator, and put my Line 6 Helix floor underneath with plenty of room. Desk is bigger then it looks in the picture, but not unwieldy for tighter spaces. Once assembled, the stand is sturdy and I have no fears of keeping my equipment on it. The workspace is roomy, and I can slide my Axiom 49 keyboard under the 2U rack (separate order) and still have plenty of workspace.

You can find better workstations, but for a tight budget or tight space, this one is great!

Really nice!!!

By Sweetwater Customer from KY on August 28, 2017

I found this item in an online search for music recording desks, as we were in need of a small and relatively inexpensive workstation for my college son's new apartment. This studio desk was absolutely perfect for our needs! I was quite surprised at the quality for the price - it is very sleek and sturdy, and the keyboard tray slides smoothly. The size is great too - not too big, and not too small. Fit nicely in his room, and very comfortably fits his monitor, speakers, and controller board. We had it shipped directly to the apartment, and my husband and son put it together on move-in day... they didn't have any trouble and took less than an hour. I was also very impressed by the quality of service provided by the Sweetwater staff, who took the time to personally communicate with me by phone to make sure our needs were met.

Great quality desk especially considering the price

By Aaron Presley from Dane County, Wisconsin on March 4, 2017 Music Background: Hobbyist, record songs at home

Great value on this. It is pretty spacious, and that's a neat option; the corner extension and rack bit. I don't have those two however. Very happy with it though, fairly easy assembly.

Great Desk For The Budget Conscience

By John Hubbard from plano, TX on February 17, 2017 Music Background: Recording, Engineer, Programing, Keyboards

I really needed to upgrade my work space from my old PC cart to a more fluid and functional space. After lots of research on DIY and such I decided to try this brand. I bought the WS7500 workstation and two WSC7500 Corner accessories (separate review on those). The WS7500 is hefty and wide enough to accommodate my Yamaha MOXF6 on the main desk with my M-Audio BX5a, Tascam US16x08 and 24"monitor on the top shelf, all with in comfortable reach. The metal hardware and wood are surprisingly well built for the price. The instructions were comprehend-able but took a bit of thought especially concerning the keyboard shelf construction, speaking of which, the slide out keyboard shelf is generous enough for both a full size keyboard and mouse, so that's handy. The sliding mechanism gets a bit stiff though. Assemble was fairly easy but once built, the unit is hard to get through standard door ways. All-in-all, I'm very happy with this desk and have had no issues with it and no missing parts.

On-Stage Stands WS7500 Workstation

By Dave M from Los Angeles, CA on February 7, 2017

I bought this desk for my wife, who needed more space for her midi interface and lap steel.

It comes in one big, heavy box and the instructions are easy to follow, and it took me about 20 minutes to assemble, and that included a coffee break. :)

My wife is very pleased with her desk and I like it for its great value and how sturdy it is.

And I have to give a big shout out to my guy Chris Sanders, for the recommendation for this outstanding desk!

I gave it a 5 because of the value! It's small enough to not ruin your limited home studio space. Big enough to be the center of your studio. Assembly is a bit of a challenge... They left out a few screws....Still, for the price, there's no other option.

Great product for the price can't beat it easy to put together

Cannot be beat for the price!

By Eric Oskanian from Palisades Park, NJ on January 22, 2015 Music Background: Been shredding chops for over 40 years

I was skeptical due to some of the reviews and peoples expectations considering the cost. For instance its not solid wood and anyone thinking they are going to get a solid wood desk at this price point is just absurd unless its used on Craig's List and not nearly as functional. Solid wood workstations are expensive.

The other worry was screws and assembly. However, they may have updated this unit because assembly was simple and it was all Allen hex screws and some nuts. Once put together the unit is very solid. The complaint about the tray bearings I am unsure of as the two side rails for the tray assembly had the the tray glides already installed.

I have purchased 'assemble on your own" computer desks in the past for 3 times the cost that were garbage. I could not be happier with this purchase and I amazed at how solid it is for the price. Mind you,its compressed board with a laminate or sheeting like wrap over it. Regardless,if you take care of your stuff I can see many years of trouble free use.

I am glad I took the chance as I am well pleased.

While this took time to assemble, I found it all worked and didn't need to drill any extra holes -- wood screws are included. The assembled product is sturdy and attractive.

Got it despite the bad reviews and glad I did!

By Gordon from Seattle, WA on December 2, 2010 Music Background: Hobbyist, student

First off, I'm giving this a 5 because I think the other ratings are more harsh than they should be and I want to bring the average up.

Before this, I had been using a student desk from office depot. I simply wanted to upgrade so that I could have my keyboard and computer all in front of me. This did exactly that, with enough room on the top to hold my Alesis M1 320 monitors aswell as my fast track pro next to my laptop.
It took me and my friend an hour to install this. YOU WILL NEED A DRILL in order to screw the platforms into the legs. Others have complained about the holes not aligning properly, but since you're drilling the screws in anyways, all you need is to align one side according to the small holes, and the other side will look virtually even. The most frustrating part of this was putting the screw cap to lock the screw on the two bars that hold the legs together (There are 8 total). Other than that, I have a solid desk that's even according to my plum line.

Fantastic Desk

By Gabriel from Tennessee on November 7, 2023

This is a sturdy and spacious desk, and really well built. It's perfect for bedroom producers, and can fit so much on it with room to spare. The only gripe I have with it is that the sliding keyboard tray is a bit low, so you would either need to have a low chair, or lift the desk up a few inches for more legroom. Other than that, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great versatility, great quality, great price!

By Nick from New Jersey on February 4, 2022 Music Background: Midlife crisis guitarist

With working from home "for a few weeks" turning into 2 years, I've been trying to update the desk in my home office (yes, home office, not studio) for quite a while. But I couldn't find the right combination of quality+utility anywhere until I saw this piece featured in a Sweetwater email. I bought the complete workstation plus an additional corner piece, which enabled me to make a right angle that fits perfectly against two walls with room in the corner for a floor lamp. This configuration gives me tons of working space, yet the "open" look of the design doesn't overpower the room. The construction is really solid and the versatility can't be beat, as there are many ways to configure this bad boy.

So why not a 5-star rating? Nitpicky things, to be honest. A cord management system would have been great. And while I understand this isn't meant to be office furniture, a drawer or 2 would have been ideal. But I solved that with a small cart from Ikea that fit perfectly underneath the desk. I also resurrected an old file cabinet from my garage that fit neatly between the legs of the Rack Cabinet, and voila! A perfect home-office set up.

Fabulous for the money.

By Larry from Newburgh N.Y. on April 14, 2020 Music Background: Professional Musician & Songwriter for 54 years.

This work station is extremely well made, easy to assemble, and about 1/4 the price of the least expensive competitor. I purchased 2 pieces of the available system and wound up with 75" of width to work with, as well as an upper deck large enough for my iMac monitor and 2 JBL studio monitors, and a slide-out shelf for my computer keyboard. The rack desk has room fo 12 rack mounted outboard units. Total cost; $399.00! I also chose the Rosewood finish, which looks great against the black metal leg frame. The only disappointment was that the picture in the catalogue showed an additional rack mount beneath the upper deck, which is only included when purchasing the entire system, although the the catalogue didn't state that. However Sweetwater took responsibility for the oversight, and although the part is back ordered, they will be sending it to me free of charge when it comes in.
My sister has been using Sweetwater for many years for all of her gear, and I plan to follow her advice from now on. Great company, with knowledgeable staff who are there to help you with your purchase, and a desire to make you happy with your choosing them.

Solid Desk

By Sweetwater Customer on February 4, 2020

Great desk, packaging was a bit beat up but aside from a little nick here and there the desk wasn't damaged. Very sturdy construction. Only wish the second level was a couple inches higher than the main desk to give me a little more clearance for my mixer but for construction, durability and aesthetics its a solid purchase.

Great desk, Very sturdy

By Devin Carter from Lagrange, IN on November 20, 2019

This desk is really a great buy. I have a 55" tv that is older and pretty heavy sitting on the top tier and it supports the weight just fine. The only complaint I have is the keyboard sliding board does not leave a whole lot of room. If it was a bit lower, I could fit my novation launchkey 25 on there and I would be totally satisfied.

Where were the instructions...?

By Prince on February 18, 2019 Music Background: Producer

I love the desk. It"s sturdy, the shelves are nice and smooth, and it looks great. The only thing that irritated me, was the fact that it came with NO instructions. The only things that came with the desk pieces were the screws, an Allen key, and a bag of candy containing the original peppermints, maybe a Charlestown Chew, and a banana Laffy Taffy... yuck. Absolutely NO instructions came with the desk, so a friend and I had to sit on the basement floor scratching our head for a couple hours... We finally assembled it, but to this very day, we can"t figure out how to attach the sliding keyboard tray.

Perfect for Home Studio

By April R from Bywater on the East Road, West Farthing, The Shire on January 5, 2019 Music Background: Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Bass, Guitar, Keys, Trumpet

I have a small Home Studio set up for serious song writing. I needed something heavy duty that looked nice but did not need to spend 1K or more on a studio workstation. This ensemble is constructed with heavy laminated wood surfaces with steel hardware. I like the no-show bolts design giving the smooth surfaces. I also like how you can customize the angle of the corner piece. I also like the ease of installing my rack components and having the option for using the feet or locking casters on the cabinet. My only beef was it is not a one person job to assemble. Normally I can put together items like these alone however, the pieces are pretty heavy (which is good) but it definitely took more than one set of hands to assemble. The instructions are a little vague and at times we had to hold the items in difficult positions while bolting together. This set is not for the first time furniture assembler, that is for sure. This is the only reason I would give 4.5 instead of a full 5. Sweetwater delivered fast, as always and included plenty of Mary Janes my absolute favorite! I highly recommend this entire set for anyone with a small studio. Very sturdy and attractive when put together.

Sturdy and nice looking

I am very happy with this workstation. It was easy to assemble and is sturdy and elegant looking. It's also nice to be able to adjust the feet, in case your floor surface is uneven.

Perfect Workstation for a Home Studio

By Joshwah from Aurora, CO on December 14, 2017 Music Background: Metal, Blues, Rock - Hobbyist

This workstation is perfect for a home studio - this is exactly what I needed to help take my production to the next level by giving me more work space than my previous set up. The desktop panels are good quality, and everything came that was needed to put it together. There are some holes that will need pre-drilled and the instructions to install the keyboard holder are lacking in detail. I had to remove and reinstall once. If the instructions were rewritten, this would have received a 5 star rating. Great product and love the color!

Sturdy and decent value

By Richard Fredrick from Kissimmee, FL on June 23, 2017

I'm not sure why some folks stated that this stand was difficult to assemble. The instructions were straightforward. The only additional alteration needed was to drill out the pilot holes on the side panels of the slide-out keyboard drawer because the woodgrain "foil" covering was preventing the insertion of the supplied bolts. About 30 seconds with a quarter inch drill bit was all that was needed. Like other On-Stage products I've owned, it's sturdy and a decent value. Of course, the "wood" surfaces are made of particle board covered with a vinyl "foil" material like you commonly find on assemble yourself products from places like Ikea. That's what keeps the cost reasonable (and adds some weight). Consider that when the cost includes "free shipping", the freight costs are obviously factored into the selling price.....just like you see on other online retail sights like Wayfair, etc. Nothing ships for "free" and Sweetwater is certainly entitled to make a fair profit margin on their products...that's what helps pay for their outstanding customer service, hefty inventory and gigantic full color catalogs. I could have bought a similar product elsewhere but Sweetwater beats them all with their outstanding service.

Very nice desk

By James Schwarz from Winter Springs, FL on March 7, 2017

I bought this desk back in 2010 and am still using it daily. It still looks pretty good. Has held up to everything I've thrown at it. It's not only my studio desk, but my daily desktop desk. I even have a 24" monitor hanging off the top shelf and it hasn't damaged the wood. Yes it's a little wobbly as I type, but nothing that bothers me that much. I have two of the side tables which are also nice, but not the most supportive. I've even had it moved my movers and it's still going strong. I would buy it again if I needed to, but seems like that is going to be a long time from know.

Great Deal

By Harold from Oklahoma on February 17, 2013 Music Background: Home musician

I really love this desk. It is sturdy and spacious. I have two computer monitors on the top tier and a small mixer on the middle tier. I have plenty of writing space. My only complaint is that it was extremely difficult to fasten the main shelf onto the frame. That being said, I honestly can't be happier with my purchase.

great desk!

By Jana Thompson from Jeffersonville, Indiana on September 24, 2012 Music Background: Hobbyist and mother of pianist/composer

Great desk, overall a wonderful addition to the music/student/composer. My son keeps his venom, laptop, and homework all on the same desk. This desk has now become his major workstation...plenty of room and sturdy too.
I put this desk together with a little difficulty, I had to drill pilot holes a little larger to get some of the screws in, and had to use power tools.
I would have given this desk a 5 star if the particle board was better made, or had it been real wood. Great bang for the buck, though!!!

Best Bang for your Buck!

By Satisfied in VA from Virginia on November 1, 2011 Music Background: Commercial Composer

I bought mine a couple of months ago. I love it and am looking to expand with the matching side extensions. The issue with people feeling they may need a drill is due to the screws you will have put in place from the bottom or at weird angles. You can use the other pieces as addional weight for you press on forcing the screws into place.

Seriously they could have charged $500 for this. This desk is a super deal.

On-Stage Stands WS7500RB Studio Desk

By Bob G. from Hartford County, CT, USA on September 9, 2011 Music Background: Guitar Hobbyist, Student

The On-Stage Stands WS7500RB Desk is just what I needed for my study desk. Already owning one of these previously purchased from Sweetwater, assembly was comparatively simple: the only tool not supplied was a Phillip's screwdriver. It should be noted that when assembling the lower slide-out drawer, it is required to align the inset screw holes so that the screws that fit into these holes aren't misaligned. After a bit of trial and error, the lower slide-out drawer was assembled and attached to the main desk. For that reason alone I gave the desk 4.5 stars. If you're not worried about breaking a mild sweat while climbing under the desk (which you'll need to do for assembly), have no fear. The finished product is indeed a bit of quality furniture that is both functional and practical. This desk is a good value for your money; the desk can hold an all-in-one computer workstation, or act as a study desk with plenty of room for books on the upper level as well as workspace on the main and drawer level. P.S. The upper level can be adjusted during assembly to place the upper level closer to the back of the desk, or more forward. Nice option if you want to save some depth space.

A well designed desk, sturdy as can be!

By Mark Harris from Indianapolis, IN USA on August 11, 2011 Music Background: Musician, Hobbyist, Engineer

This desk is perfect for my nearfields, flat panel monitor, external drives and keyboard. There's plenty of workspace and this desk is solid. Now I can leave everything set up and just plug in my laptop when I get home and keep working on my session.
As others have mentioned, the part labeling and pre-drilling could be better executed, but as long as you leave the hardware loose until everything is in place, it will tighten up nicely.

Not Bad At All...

By Leon from Philadelphia on January 25, 2011 Music Background: Guitar, bass, recording, mixing....

First, I was VERY unsure about purchasing this workstation after the negative reviews, but I am really really glad I did. For the price it is unbeatable, and sturdy. So...here are some things to keep in mind:
First...every review is correct...the holes DO NOT line up...but this isn't so terrible if you have a drill, like another reviewer stated. If you line one side up to the holes, and then use a drill on the other side, it will end up just fine, and even. Second: Yes...it is NOT a solid wood desk..it IS laminate...but it is NOT at all shabbily made. The finish on one I have looks rather handsome, and authentic. Third, the desk is STURDY...you have to adjust the four small leveling "feet" on the bottom of the unit until it sits level, once tightened, the unit doesn't rock at all. It's the perfect size for small work areas, plus it is expandable with end pieces available to add to either soze, adding a nice amount of additional workspace, not many other workstations offer that.

I dig it!

By JET from MI on January 18, 2011 Music Background: Musician, Songwriter

True, it was poorly packed from the land of cheap desks. The box looked like they drop shipped it from 10,000 feet. Holes were slightly askew. However, for the money it has been a GREAT desk!. I have a large pair of monitors on it, as well as all my other equipment. I have had it for more than a year with NO problems. The desk has remained stable too. Nice layout, lots of room for my gear. It holds a lot for it's size. Cool unit for relatively cheap.

Like it a lot!

By RBC from Virginia on December 3, 2020 Music Background: 30 years professional musician

Ok. So I really like a lot of things about this desk. First of all it looks great and has a good layout. I am very impressed by the hardware. I am pretty rough with screws and have a tendency to strip them because, hey, I want that stuff locked down. I dont want this self assembly stuff getting all wobbly in 6 months. I am very pleased to report that I was able to torque the hell out of the screws without stripping any of them. The desk is super solid.

Next, instructions: these were really good to start. Parts and pieces are all laid out and labelled clearly and correspond perfectly with the instructions. There was only one part that lost this edge over other self-assembly products I've purchased. The suspended keyboard drawer. The picture is super vague and so are the instructions. I've build a lot of stuff like this (Ikea furniture, etc..) and dealt with a lot of terrible instructions. These are definitely some of the best, but the keyboard tray section...not so much. I took a gamble and put it together correctly, but I was worried I messed it up.

Only other complaint is that with the keyboard tray underneath I basically cant fit my legs. I'm a tall guy, so I am kind of used to things not fitting my size. But I'm only 6'3" and even with my chair as low as possible this thing hits the tops of my knees. I may just remove the drawer altogether. Or I might build some stilts for the legs. Anyway, it would be nice for really anyone, I think, if the lowest part of the sliding keyboard tray was like 3 to 4 inches higher.

One other thing. The packaging is minimal. There were some minor scratches on it just from sliding around in the box a little. My box was damaged a tiny bit and the desk had a small ding in it. Not a big enough deal for me to return the desk. But there it is.

That's all. Pretty satisfied. I would buy it again. Especially since other studio equipment is just stupid expensive. If someone wants to win all the money they would start a home studio furniture line. Some more options besides this one desk and its accompanying pieces would be nice.

Perfect for a home studio

By Eric from Fresno on May 3, 2020

This workstation was very easy to build and is very sturdy. Only two complaints: 1) the height is just low enough where I can slide my chair under the keyboard slide-out while I'm in it. 2) the surfaces will scratch easily and the lamination will get dented if you're not careful. When attaching the slide-out to the bottom of the main surface, make sure the top of the main surface is on clean carpet. Mine was on the box it came in and it was scratched very quickly. Other than that I think this unit will last for a very long time.

Good stable work surface

By Sweetwater Customer on March 2, 2020 Music Background: 2x mo. Giging musician, beginner in the digital recording.

This desk has a solid welded frame. The desk surfaces are the typical pressboard with a laminated surface.
One corner of one desk surface was damaged on mine but sweetwater customer service was awesome. I had a replacement part the
Day after I called them. The assembly instructions are correct, all the hardware came in separated by size bags and clearly labeled.
A hex wrench and nut wrench were included. Not snapon quality but they worked just fine. It goes together like any assembly that has a lot of fasteners to align. Leave All bolts loose enough to allow the pieces to shift around a bit for alignment before final tightening. I used a large nail as a "alinement" tool to line up the final few bolt holes with their threaded fittings.
The desk is solid as a rock after final assembly.

Great Product !!!

By Robert Raudenbush from Joplin, MO on December 8, 2019 Music Background: Guitarist, emphasis on blues and classic rock.

First I'd like to say that mine arrived absolutely perfectly packed. Not a single scratch or blemish with all the parts, (Kudos to On-Stage Shipping Department). Super quality, heavy duty and very solid. Nicely priced and of course Sweetwater always ships fast. Very easy to build with one exception. Illustrations in the instructions on the keyboard tray assembly were not very detailed. I had to go pretty slow during this part to make sure it was installed correctly. This was the only thing that held me back from giving this product 5 stars. When it was alll finished I was super happy. It looks great in my studio. One last comment. The top shelf is doubled drilled as to give you an option on mounting it on the Z frame. (A far back or forward position). This was nice as my console is pretty deep. Mounting the top in the back position allows me to see the screen. In the forward position your mixer is going be slipped underneath it unless your control surface has a shallow depth. Thanks Sweetwater, Great Product !!!

Not a bad workstation for the price.

By Josh Van Hoorebeke from St Louis on March 9, 2019 Music Background: Music Producer

Man, this thing looks great and is priced well for a product with a title like "workstation". BUT the wood is cheap though and the screws used to mount the hardware to the wood aren"t very good quality either. After tear down and setup to move most of the original holes were unusable requiring me to slightly offset and redrill. The biggest isssue is the keyboard pull out tray. It just feel off in the middle of a session I was having and now wont hold anymore to the screws. The main desk is big enough for my Akai MPK49 and my Mac keyboard to fit without the Akai being under the rack mount. But all in all overall it"s pretty sturdy and good if you don"t plan on moving it ever and don"t wanna spend an arm and a leg on a custom studio desk.

Great desk

By Jonathan from Portland, OR on June 23, 2018 Music Background: Studio engineer, pianist

The bottom table of this desk is really nice and spacious. Plenty of space for a midi keyboard and more. However the top is a little limited if you have large monitors, I have Focal Solo6 BEs and while they fit on top, there's not enough space between them, so you may need studio monitor stand on the side of this. The rack addition is great, having the option of placement with the different components with the complete system make this a very versatile workstation.

Nothing really fancy about it , just a nice good ol' workstation desk that fits my studio set up. Assembly was easy , nothing crazy. The only thing that went wrong was the slider that needed to be replace which my sales rep Ikes Taylor took care of. As always he gets the job done , thanks. Everything seems to be more in place now , workflow is a lot better , I can just concentrate more on the creativity side. highly recommended.

Great desk but with a slight design flaw

By Kane Skinlo from South Dakota on February 20, 2017

I got the 2U under table rack mount for my ART PS4x4 power conditioner and because of the brace bar under the monitor shelf, it doesn't allow me enough room to have anything plugged into it so I ended up having to take the bar off, which is as impractical as it is surprising that they wouldn't have addressed that during the design process. Another thing to note is that if you plan to use dual screens, you're going to have to buy monitor stands cause there isn't enough room for them and monitors (which is probably obvious). However, everything else is awesome and you just can't beat what you get for the price, so I would definitely suggest this desk.

I'll start off by saying...yes...for the money.
It is what it is. For $170 the size is perfect for me and is solidly built. Assembly was no problem. I think perhaps it has been improved over time. I didn't install the keyboard tray, as I have no need for it. Overall, I'd recommend it. Super service from Matt Alexander at Sweetwater.

Solid Workstation

By Alan K. from San Jose, CA on March 11, 2015 Music Background: Guitarist

This was not so hard to put together and really did not take more than an hour. It is sturdy and roomy enough for my gear. Studio Speakers, 11Rack, Drum machine, mixer and Laptop as well as cables and accessories. The only drawback to me was the color is darker than the picture. I would say it is more brown, When I took a picture with my camera it also came out lighter in the photo. The 4.0 is due to the color and laminate as there was a back corner slightly dinged but hidden from view and the color not what I expected.

By Quanah from Portland texas on February 12, 2015 Music Background: Home studio engineer / musician

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this product considering the price point. I thought the directions were a bit misleading for the assembly of the keyboard drawer but otherwise no issues. I plan on buying the rack and insert modules next

Exactly what I expected

By Bob S from Centennial, CO USA on January 21, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist

First of all, this product is $170 delivered. Set your expectations there. For the price, you get a very sturdy, well laid out, excellent proportioned workstation. Minimal wobble, relatively easy to assemble, other than screwing the desktop into the frame. That is a bit challenging, but best achieved with some help. Not impossible alone though.

I have a Kronos X 88 on the main desktop - it extends over the edges a bit but there is no shaking when I play it so I can see the monitors without feeling like I am about to break the sound barrier.

The keyboard tray is a bit low, but not terrible. A good hiding place for computer keyboards, mice, etc.

Excellent value for the money. It is particle board with a thin plastic-type veneer, so just be careful with it and you will be fine.

By Adam Turner from Lemoyne, PA on September 19, 2014 Music Background: singer, songwriter, home studio owner

I like the overall design but never expected cheap screws to hold things together. I mount 2 monitors on a single bar and an additional bard for the laptop. Not only did the 1st 2 screws strip during installation,I would never trust them to hold my mounting system together. I had to go to Home Depot and get better screws. But all in all, perfect design for a small home studio.

WS7500 Wooden Workstation - Making it work

By Robert Oakes from West Chester, PA on January 11, 2014 Music Background: Producer

I purchased the workstation to house my ProControl mixing board.
I found that as originally designed the VU meters would be hidden under the top shelf. Easy solution, move the location of the bottom board (with keyboard shelf). I don't know if designers had this fix in mind but, with additional fastening on bottom shelf, it works very well.
Sweetwater, as usual was very helpful with fast delivery.

Perfect for my space

By Rod from Philadelphia, PA on September 18, 2013 Music Background: Recording engineer, songwriter

The quality is solid, and the form factor is nice. I was a bit disappointed that the width if the main desk was 2" shorter than advertised, but that was ok for me because I just set my monitors on my full range floor speakers that are roughly the same height as the desk.

Also, the instructions for the keyboard drawer are very vague. I had to disassemble it once and reverse the top and bottom boards, and I think the drawer itself is still backwards because it doesn't come put as far as it seems it should.

That said, my MacBook fits on it nicely, and I am pleased. Take extra time with the keyboard assbly so you don't make the same mistakes that I made!

WS7500 Helpful Hints

By Marty Heldt from Lakeville, Michigan on March 19, 2013 Music Background: Playng guitar for 35 years and now writing music and doing God's will for my life.

I am giving this a 4 becuase I have time to assemble it.Delivery was the next day and packaging was ok. How I assembled this.
1. Layout frame. fasteners, and wood to make sure everything is there(as with anything)
2. Attached the crossbars to the main z legs and tighten snug.and add the 4 rubber feet to the bottom of the frame.
3. Place the top shelf on the frame so it is almost flush with where it would fit against a wall..
4. Take a fine point magic marker and stick it in the support tabs from underneath so that you know where to drill the 4 holes. Grab a drill bit slightly smaller than the wood screws provided.Mark the drill bit with the marker 3/4 depth of the screw itself.
5. Place the top shelf FACE DOWN on the floor. Drill the 4 holes to the depth of the mark on the drill (so you don't drill through the top)
6. Place the frame up side down on the wood you just drilled and align the holes.
7. Grap a long phillips screw driver and tighten down the frame to the top shelf with the wood screws so they are snug.(If you hear crunching than you are over tightening them! Top is now Complete.
8. Start assembling the pull out drawer- Slide on the 2 sides of drawer remembering which side is up!!Look at the diagram in the instructions if needed. Spray the bearings with lithium white grease if you have it to keep them lubed.
9.Take one of the side screws (should be 8 of them) and poke them through the holes to make sure there is a clear pass(this will help when you align the bolts to the inserted nuts.
10. Place the slide out on it's side and bolt in the BOTTOM of the sliding drawer . (It has less holes in it than the top)It is easier to get the bolts started straight this way.Make sure they are started and snug them down
11. Take a 15 minute break to rest your neck and fingers..
12. Thank God you have eye sight and arms and can afford to do this as many in the world don't and can't.
13. OK. Now Place LARGE lower table top on it's face and screw in the other side of the sliding drawer(not connected yet ) onto the underside of the LARGE table top. Use the 4 bolts provided and snug them down!
14. With the LARGE table top still facing face down, slide the siding drawers onto the Large table top so you can put in the 4 side screws. This may take some wiggling to get them all started.
15. Once started, snug them down when the allen wrench.
16 Take a break. It's almost done!! Thank God.
17. With the sliding drawer firmly attached to the LARGE table top, flip it onto the upright frame . Be careful not to get slapped in the jewels as the sliding drawer will move!! ;)
18. Crawl underneath the stand and mark where he wood screw holes are , drill them out, screw them in and you are done!!! Amen!!
Hope this helps.

Setting it up was pretty tough at points, simply because the holes that were pre-drilled into the wood were a bit off...but overall it wasn't too bad. The only problem I have now is the fact that the entire desk wobbles slightly, nothing bad, just enough for me to notice sometimes.

Nice workstation, difficult to setup

By Jim from Eustis, FL USA on October 11, 2010 Music Background: Semi-Pro musician, Hobbyist/Student Producer/Engineer.

As others have said, this can be difficult to setup. I've put together numerous desks and computer workstations, but this seemed to be a little more frustrating. But when done it is a very nice workstation and plenty of room for my 61 key Roland A800-Pro, 27" monitor and keyboard. The Pull out tray is large enough for a 25-key controller for sure, possible a 49-key.

On suggestion, the instruction tell you to tighten the frame before putting the shelves up. I found that by keep the frame a little loose, it was possible to "force" the holes to align. You can then tighten the frame when your done.

Sturdy, solid, inexpensive, 2 downchecks

By Lance Lindley from Callaway, MD on March 25, 2019

Pros:
- Extremely sturdy and solid, even if you don't use all the parts (see below in the cons)
- If you install the two-space rack under the top shelf, it's very convenient (with some cons, below)
- Plenty of flat space to work on
- Inexpensive

Cons:
- Sliding keyboard shelf is very hard to slide in or out
- Some steps of the instructions are not perfectly clear, resulting in annoying trial-and-error and rework
- The cross-piece bar under the top shelf interferes with rack gear if you install the rack... I had to remove it

This desk is super solid and stable, looks pretty good and provides a lot of flat surface space to put things on and/or work on. It's relatively easy to assemble, though there are a few head-scratcher moments in the steps where you may use the wrong bolts or assemble a piece that you find out a few steps later you put in backwards, and you have to undo a few steps and put it the right way in. Probably avoidable if you lay it all out and really think it through in advance -- not something my personality is wired for. :) If you install the two-space rack, you'll find that the crossbar under the top shelf interferes with putting gear in the top space of the rack.

Functional but overpriced

By Adam Turner from Lemoyne, PA on October 15, 2014 Music Background: Singer/Songwriter/Producer Amateur recording engineer

First, the tops are held on by cheap screws that are too small. You'll have to get better screws if you want to trust the sturdiness which I needed because I mount 2 monitors on a bar on the back side.

The keyboard pull-out busted and 100 ball bearings were all over the place and it couldn't be reassembled. The base shelf is deep enough though to not need the keyboard pull-out. It would actually be too far away and I have 2/24" monitors.

All in all, I like the overall design and compatibility but I found $50 cheaper somewhere else a few days after purchasing it.

Very Functional, Frustrating Setup

By Michael Curtis from Dallas, TX on July 18, 2014 Music Background: Mixer, Bassist, Masterer, Composer

I like this finished product. There were a few dings in the wood and some blemishes on the metal that occurred during the manufacturing process. There weren't any included instructions. Eventually figured everything out, but was frustrating at first.

It's sturdy once it's all put together. Has plenty of space for all my gear. (keyboard, mouse, midi controller, macbook). Great for the home studio environment.

Somehwat of a pain to put together (not as bad as others have described) but in the end is a great functional desk for the price. No electric drill is needed and it should only take you about two hours from beginning to end. It looks pretty slick and so far has sustained significant weight...I have a 32" LCD on the top level along with two Rokit5's and hasn't budged at all. You won't be disappointed with this purchase.

Good desk. Extra setup effort required

By Markeyse J. Mundy from California on April 12, 2010 Music Background: Music Engineer, Producer

I bought this desk because I needed more space, and a better layout. The price was right, so I decided to buy it.

The bad part of the desk is the setup when attaching the shelves. The holes does not line up, thus causing you to make additional holes from an uncomfortable position. It also doesn’t line up with the WSR7500 off the bat. So be prepared to spend a lot of time doing adjustments.

Otherwise, the desk is very good. It is big enough to put controllers on top. The top shelf for the monitors is a Godsend. It cause for a very ergonomic position while sitting at the desk. It is also pretty sturdy. I did wish it had a form of cable management, but I guess you can only ask so much for the price.

This desk is at a very good price and it is a good buy, just expect to take some extra time aligning and drilling new holes.

I Purchased this desk back in 2016 and can say that this desk does get the job done, but in 2016 I got this for $. Todays price is $ more... for that amount I would maybe look elsewhere as the quality of the product is sturdy but not the best. When I assembled it, some of the screw holes were almost too small and I was shorted some hardware as well. Luckily that did not hinder my ability to use the desk effectively. This is not Sweetwaters fault but a reason I try to stay away from on-stage products.

Sturdy desk, will do the job, room for improvement for the price

By Laura from Chicago on May 8, 2020 Music Background: DJ / Singer song writer

The desk was easy enough to assemble, but not the keyboard tray. I was unable to slide it in to latch onto the sliders. The one on the right completely broke off as I was trying to slide it in! So now the tray doesn't pull out smoothly. Even while it was attached briefly to the slider, it was not smooth.

I'm also seeing this desk available via other platforms for much cheaper on B & H

Kind of wishing I saw that other offer before I made this purchase. The material also scratches very easily which is a bummer. Just from setting my speakers up , moving them to the right spot there are little white marks everywhere on the black. Kind of disappointed with this purchase but it's too heavy to try and return. It'll do I suppose!

By Jonathan Perez from Miami on April 6, 2018 Music Background: Producer

I"ve had this desk for almost 3 years now and it has gotten the job done! Has enough real estate for 2 monitors and a monitor display on the top surface. I use a KeyLab 49 as my midi of choice, and Focusrite 2i2 interface on the bottom and you can fit more than that on the bottom surface if needed. It is a little flimsy and moves side to side a little and from what I remember building it out of the box wasn"t that easy.

WS7500 Workstation

By Ron on January 5, 2018 Music Background: old fart

The WS7500 is a good and useful product, if you don't intend to put to much demand on it. I could not use the rack option that I bought for it, because of the height of my keyboard would not allow it to work, also, if you have any equipment to mount in it, the depth is vary shallow due to the upper cross-bar that runs under the top shelf, the rack thing was well intended.. just not vary useful. For the money, you can't beat it, looks good and built strong, solid good value for the money, will buy the matching rack cabinet.

Excellent Value

By James Ashley Hartman from Fayetteville, AR on October 5, 2015

Nice size and easy to assemble. Worst quality laminate I've ever seen, particularly at the rounded edges. Assemble the frame very loosely. Assembly the drawer very carefully then torque the drawer screws. Lay the top piece on the frame. Manipulate the frame as you install the screws. Leave the screws loose. Do the same for the desk top. Torque the frame screws. Torque the top's screws. Very simple! Apply a few layers of ploy and this will last you many years.

Recording desk

By Greg from Chicago on September 29, 2015

The table itself is good for the price. Unless you're looking to spend 500+ on a workstation then this is great. The only reason I have rated lower was because it was a little bit of a pain to assemble. I was only missing one thing and that was a rubber stopper for the top shelf no big deal. I wanted to say that the tray table gave me a huge pain. It got stuck in the glide system and the ball bearing glide system ended up falling apart. But the great guys at Sweetwater Luke and Andrew helped me out and I was able to have a full glide system shipped to me in no time. Always great service from Luke at Sweetwater!

WS7500 Nice Desk, but Pack a Lunch!

By Bob Lee from Caldwell, NJ on November 4, 2013 Music Background: Keyboardist, drummer, composer, film editor, budding film scorer.

Once assembled, the desk is great, but bring a drill, screw drivers, a decent socket wrench, and plenty of patience.

I was a mechanic and a machinist for a number of years, and I can tell you that the QC on this piece leaves much to be desired. Pilot holes that don't line up with the tabs, threaded anchors that take forever to align with the bolts, etc.

What should have taken about 20 minutes took about an hour and a half, and I am no neophyte!

It does the Job.

By Andrew from New York on July 9, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician, Recording Hobbyist, Music Director

No doubt the cheapest workstation on the market right now that will actually fit your needs! I would rate this higher as it's really working for me nice but ehh on quality. It was a PAIN to assemble. The holes didnt line up I had to redrill them ugh. It appears to be MDF board veneered with the nice rosewood covering- it was mashed on its edges when I got it, too lazy to return it but with all my studio stuff on it -you can't tell. So in comparison to everything else out there-I would recommend this mainly cause it fulfills the need to hold your equipment and after the hassle of installation it does look nice-I have gotten a lot of complements. So it does the job and I overall would recommend it (unless you can find something cheaper or at the same price point thats better then by all means don't get this) but I'd implore the company to pay just a little more attention to detail.

Decent for the Price I guess

By Sweetwater Customer from United States on March 11, 2013 Music Background: Engineer, Musician

Once it's assembled this is a fine and useful piece of furniture for the price. Design wise, I wish the top shelf could be adjusted or at least raised a bit so I could get more vertical space on the main shelf.

I hated this thing when I was assembling it. I am quite handy, but the instructions were a bit roundabout. I'm pretty sure there could of been a better way, method or order of assembling certain things, but I stuck with what the instructions said, just in case. Certain things just was not as easy as it should have been. For example installing the wood screws to the main plate. Make sure you have adequate light to line up the holes.

The wood and metal framing materials feel a little cheap to me, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

roll with it

By Bruce Kaiser from NJ, USA on June 29, 2010

you'll need to rely on your own ingenuity, and you own tools, to do the job right. my hardware packets were labelled incorrectly, which resulted in having to assemble the frame twice (fyi-the shorter allen screws are for the frame). i had to reattach a draw slider that was botched at the factory; and the pilot holes for attaching the shelves didn't align properly, probably due to the frame not being perfectly square... so i made new ones. after it's all assembled, it's a solid, useful piece with lots of work surface. good bang for the buck.

Not a well thought out design.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 18, 2024 Music Background: Been playing since 1976

No issues with the main desk surface or the elevated surface but the roll out hideaway shelf is a disaster. I'm pretty average height and even barefoot the hideaway shelf hits me in the middle of my knee cap. You either have to sit way back, sit sidesaddle or let your legs flop to the sides to use it. It's VERY uncomfortable for any extended work. I'm a big fan of On-Stage gear but this one is a miss.

Good and bad

By Dan from Nj on November 11, 2017 Music Background: Playing music for 35 plus years

Solid and easy to put together. But the keyboard shelf is garbage. The desk and cart also have marks all over

Definately has some flaws

By Bob M from Sonoma, CA on August 5, 2014 Music Background: 40 years of playing

The price is low and it can fill a need but there are a lot of issues. The "wood" is vinyl cover particle board, and not all that well done. I found the upper shelf way to high, if a monitor is placed there you will be looking "up hill" at it. It also will put monitors higher than optimal for correct listening.

The stands are sturdy but be prepared to need more tools than the little one included. The "pre-drilled" screw holes for mounting the boards are no more than pin size and there is no way you will get the screws in without "stripping" the head slotting. They need to be drilled out to a larger size.

Most annoying was that one set of the tabs for the main surface mounting are right under the cross bar and only a stubby screwdriver will get them in, and that is after drilling the holes in the board larger. The fasteners for the end allen bolts in the sliding drawer box use unusual inserts that can turn in place so you will need a flat blade screwdriver to position them in order to get the allen bolt to engage. Plus putting in the box mounting to main surface allens is a pain.

Most annoying is the minimal of instructions leaving out all of the above as well as how to correctly insert the sliding drawer into the box. The slides are not well designed and one of mine fell apart right away. I ended up replacing them with more quality units. In the end I cut off the upper shelf mounting, upgraded the sliders and narrowed the main surface to reduce flat surface reflections from optimal speaker placement behind the unit.

In short the unit is inexpensive but poorly thought out as to assembly along with poor instructions. Buyers have to balance out the low price with the amount of effort to assemble and the design issues.

If it had more rigidity

By Tony from Powell, OH on August 3, 2012 Music Background: Budget audiophile

If it had more rigidity I'd rate 3 1/2 stars. I personally though have no use for the pull-out keyboard panel and should have probably left it off. My eyesight is really messed up due to disabilities so the screen being on the top shelf is a bother, but I tried and it's too big to be on the lower shelf. With all the negatives out of the way, the top shelf fits a Dell U2412M and two KRK Rokit5 G2's near perfectly, and the large desk space on the middle portion is great. I have a headphone Dac and amp and they fit well on one end while I listen to music and surf the internet. I wish I had better credit score so that Sweetwater could carry more mid-range (300-500 is mid-range for people that aren't ridiculous) audiophile gear I could buy.

On-Stage Stands WS7500

By Sweetwater Customer on March 20, 2010

This is a great looking workstation and very functional. The assembly process was just a little tricky, however, I was able to figure it out.

The only thing I really don't like about this workstation is it is unstable. As I type on the keyboard tray, the stand shakes back and fourth.

I will be modifying it with a piece of heavy plywood attached to the back, main legs. I am going to paint it flat black and drill two small holes in it so I can run my cables through. This will strengthen the workstation to help make it more stable. I don't know why On-Stage didn't do this in the first place.

I do realize many workstations/desks are unstable, however, this is probably the best for the money (if you are willing on modifying it like what I will be doing soon.)

Poor Quality

By Joshua Carter from Tarrytown, NY on October 25, 2023

Poor quality even for the price. Box came in great condition, but every panel was scuffed. The frame was also bent. I decided to eat the cost and put it together anyway as a stopgap on my way to a better console in the future. This thing isn't QA inspected at the factory, so buyer beware.

Otherwise the workstation was easy to put together, and has plenty of surface to accommodate a small setup.

Ok as long as you dont need the sliding piece

By Sweetwater Customer on June 21, 2017

The sliding board piece is a very poor design, the sliding mechanism does not work very well and can break easily.
I am glad I don't need this sliding section of this stand.

Does It's Job But...

By Byron Pineiro from Bergenfield, NJ on April 24, 2017

I ordered this desk mainly because my current one could not fit my setup and I desperately needed something with more room. I read the previous reviews and decided to ignore them because I thought my order would come out different. I have never before had a problem with any product I've purchased through Sweetwater. I was wrong. When I first opened the box, I laid out the contents only to find out I was missing one of the wooden pieces for the bottom tray, therefor I could not install that part of the workstation. I don't really care since I didn't need that part but it would've been nice to still have the feature. Main thing wrong with this desk is that most of the screw holes do not match the frame. I am currently holding the top frame with two screws, one on each side. Same with the main surface. One of the support bars, the one for the top, does not align with one side of the frame. Forcing it together will cause the frame to bend and be unbalanced. For the most part it does it's job but I would not recommend this product to anyone.

2 workstations, both flawed, despite great customer service.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 11, 2017

Pros: Excellent customer service.
If you're willing to work around the defects this can be a good desk for the money.
Desk seems sturdy overall.

Cons: The same quality control issues that make up the bulk of the reviews. Multiple defects in manufacturing.

I decided to roll the dice with this after reading the reviews and ended up with two of these units because Sweetwater sent me a replacement after the first was defective. Dealing with them was a breeze and a pleasure. However, both ended up having defects. I will be working around these problems and using the workstations side by side. Two defective desks kind of makes a whole I guess. The better looking options are priced astronomically higher so this still worked out.

On the first workstation, the hole for one of the feet was drilled/welded crooked and the foot became stuck after screwing it in. It would neither screw out or screw in all the way. I ended up having to use a hacksaw to remove it so it would sit flat on the welded nuts. Everything else on the desk works properly, I just can't adjust the height of it with the screw-in feet now.

On the replacement workstation I received there are two problems. First, one of the tracks for the slide out keyboard arrived damaged, bent and crooked. It would not slide correctly onto the track and became stuck. I had to disassemble the rack in order to remove the tray. I have decided for the time being not attach this to the desk until I can either hammer the damaged track so it sits flat or go to the hardware store and install new tracks. Pretty much a hassle either way so may leave as is. Secondly, the frame on this one is crooked and wobbly and would not sit level with the first workstation. The first workstation sits perfectly flat on the floor without feet and doesn't wobble. I tried loosening and retightening the bolts, pushing against the legs of the frame and it didn't improve this problem. I ended up putting some furniture slider feet on the front of the workstation and this made it almost level to the first, but not perfect. This is a good example of no two desks being the same.

Tips: You should have someone help you assemble this. The cams don't fit snug in the holes and will fall out on you if you don't have someone hold them in while you tighten bolts with the allen wrench. Using the allen wrench to poke the "pin holes" in the laminate and working them in a circular motion with the wrench is a good way to clear the path. A drill was not required for this.

Conclusion: Assembly was a headache. Price was good considering the options. If quality control issues were fixed this would be an unbeatable product. For such a simple piece of furniture it shouldn't have this many issues. Was impressed with Sweetwater customer service. Not going to press luck on a third desk despite defects.

Read Carefully

By Adam from Chicago on January 3, 2016 Music Background: Production

I'm only giving this item a 2 star because it looks good visually. I would buy again, however:

1. The Main Board screw holes don't match the sides. So I basically have only one side screwed.
2. READ the instructions carefully, the instructions are worst ive seen. there are only 4 images and hard to follow instructions.
3. The Main board and the keyboard tray attaching use a smaller screw! I mistakenly used the same screws as all the other parts and damaged the wood. how frustrating. the instructions should have this highlighted and in color RED..... since the instructions say to put the board upside down so you dont really know if you are damaging the wood or not READ INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY.
4. The keyboard tray doesn't screw in properly. so again the same issue with the main board the screw holes don't matching.

I basically have a wobbly desk that looks good

Really Cheap

By Morgan from Columbus, ohio on October 5, 2015 Music Background: Professional Musician

This is a really cheap desk. It's not actual wood, but a cheap, thin coating that peels with little contact. We moved it into another room and got numerous scratches.
Also, the adjustable top shelf does not align properly. We currently have it with the screw just on the right side.
I never do reviews, but I had to say, this is not worth the money.

Poor engineering

By Danny Showalter from Missoula, MT on November 16, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist Musician

Difficult to assemble, but useful when put in use

It took a long time for two well qualified individuals to assemle the On-Stage Stand: Wooden Workstation. Many of the holes for screws did not match up and it was in some instances a new build. The directions were sketchy, but all in all it is working out now.

I would have giving this workstation a better much higher rating.
Maybe I got a bad workstation.
It is big and strong, problem I had was putting it together.
Some holes were not align correctly, I had to drill holes.
I got frustrated because I had to take it apart.
Normally putting a workstation together takes me 2 hours.
This workstation, one day.

Great for the money, but not amazing by any means

By Josh Fowler from Newport News, VA on September 27, 2012 Music Background: Pro Musician, Hobbyist, Recording Engineer, Producer

This desk is really functional, and it certainly does the job. You can't beat it for the money. Some things I didn't care for:

1.) The cheap laminate was already peeling in 2 places when I got it, and the wood underneath had been slightly warped. It was kind of what you would expect from an open box ikea item.

2.) The instructions weren't nearly specific enough. Thank God I had put together furniture before, or this could have been a disaster. If you get this piece, try to think intuitively as you put it together, and be thinking about what is required for your next step, or you could end up having to take some of it back apart like I did.

3.) The keyboard tray was the biggest challenge to get right, and it still isn't great.

Now some good points.

- It works well for what it is designed for.
- Seems to be very sturdy

Get this piece if you are desperate for a desk, but not if you have more money to spend.

Vague instructions, frustrating setup

By PS on June 5, 2017

The layout and outer looks are great. Fits my Yamaha HS5 monitors, a computer monitor, Ableton Push, Korg Minilogue, and Akai MIDI keyboard on it, with a thunderbolt hub, audio interface, and laptop.

However, there are major drawbacks, and would explain the cheap price. This is not solid wood, and the rosewood exterior is just a wrap. The screws on the tabletop ended up going straight through and creating indents on the top sheet, and there was no way of telling I went too far, because the setup requires you to start with the desktop upside down.

In addition, the instructions are vague, and the sliding shelf is incredibly frustrating to put on.

I would strongly recommend spending a bit more on a more quality desk, made of solid materials and with clear setup and better reviews.

sharp rails

By Shane from Utah on January 9, 2015 Music Background: 15 years, Musician, Recoring Engineer

It’s not very nice, the slide out keyboard tray has sharp rails on both sides. The only reason I don’t return it is because it’s already put together. I recommend Sweetwater STOP selling this product.

Heinous Assembly

By JD from Nashville on August 17, 2013

This desk may end up being great for recording, but the assembly is so heinous that I nearly have already thrown it out. The instructions could not be less detailed and vague. The holes are in all the wrong places. And good lord, the keyboard stand is a joke. It doesn't fit in at all. So much frustration.

Great Stand, wish the quality of the wood was better

By Robert from Cincinnati OH on September 2, 2012 Music Background: Live Sound Engineer

First, I got this because the form-factor was PERFECT for my application. Also, the steel frame, although the welds were a bit sloppy, was pretty good. However, when I got it, I found the "wood" panels were the worst excuse for composite wood I've ever encountered. Every trouble I had assembling this related to that problem (1) The keyboard drawer was dumpster-food. The rails were screwed into the sides (sort of) but the wood was so soft that the screws couldn't even hold themselves in. Further, the slides were bent, but the box didn't appear to be damaged, so it must have been packed that way. (2) the main table would NOT hold the wood screws supplied. Screwing into this wood was like screwing into cardboard. I ended up drilling though and putting in thin carriage bolts to hold it.

I didn't return it because I was in a time crunch and getting another desk would take a week I didn't have. I salvaged the keyboard drawer from the previous installation to replace the one they sent, and am going to get the Church carpenter to make a replacement top of real wood, or at least composite made with some real binders.

This desk is a real winner IF you get the wood panels right

You just can't imagine....

By Warren from Santa Monica, Ca on December 16, 2010 Music Background: Recording Engineer/Producer & Pro Musician.

....how frustrating and exhausting it was to assemble this product and the matching 12u rack. Mounting holes were poorly aligned and instructions were not helpful. It arrived with two scratches on the top worksurface finish. The worksurfaces are meant to be attached to the metal frame with the supplied, insufficiently sized wood screws. The included rack hardware screw heads are small and don't include protective washers. Once it's assembled and set up, it looks and works fine, but On-Stage Stands should pay you to assemble this item.

UNACCEPTABLE !

By Angelo on January 28, 2021

The keyboard tray kept getting stuck multiple times, so I had no choice but to keep pushing it back out as hard as I can. Once it finally came back out, both the plastic stopping mechanisms on each side broke completely and the metal piece that goes in the track fell out permanently along with the little metal balls in it that make it stay in the track (both shown in picture). Now I have to slide the keyboard tray out slowly so it won't fall out the desk. I was really looking forward to having a desk for my new computer, but I guess I have no choice but to use it with a broken keyboard tray. That's cool I guess.

This desk sucks.

By Bill from Mansfield, Oh. on August 22, 2017

The actual wood and moving drawer components are fine. But this desk is so cheaply made. I would not recommend buying this, but if you do, you'll do better measuring yourself to drill the holes for the screws. The measurements are off on this thing, and it's just not a nice heavy duty desk. It helps my computer, monitors, and computer speakers...yes. But it wobbles n' such. The hardest part is putting it together. Just get a better desk.

On stage STands

It's very heavy, hard to assemble and consume lots of space. I would return it if it were not too much a hassle to disassemble, pack and ship back.

Very Poor Quality Desk.

By Wyatt from Los Angeles on September 2, 2015

Very poor quality product. I was not expecting an amazing wood desk and having read other various review I knew the laminate was not going to be the greatest I had ever seen. But I at leastwas expecting a functional product. Upon set up of this desk multiple of the allen screws did not line up to the holes they needed to be screwed in to as if the company did not even measure the wood when making cuts. Also the keyboard trey is very flimsy and snapped off upon initial assembly. 1 Star is being generous, I feel this product deserves no stars. I recommend you save your money instead of dealing with the hassle of returning the product and wasting two weeks.

Might be worth the $$$ if it was $1.69

By Dave Parfitt from East Stroudsburg, PA on March 27, 2014

This is the worst piece of furniture ever created.
1.) Directions are outright wrong in that they tell you to use screws labeled one letter, but earlier in the instructions the same letter was used for another type of bolt.
2.) You must drill or tap your own pilot holes.
3.) Picture diagrams are primitive making it harder to follow.
4.) Fake laminate bubbles on the underside of pieces.
5.) Missing black end cap (I searched and searched ... it wasn't included.
6 I foolishly bought the side table too and there is no way to tighten the leg so that significant wobble doesn't exist.

1/2 way through the installation I would have gladly payed $200 more if I knew a more expensive desk would have been easier to build and more so, better quality.

Sweetwater rules, but should dump this line. I have put a decent amount of cheap furniture together in my day so I set my expectation low when I unpacked to assemble, but I should have set my expectation way, way, way lower.

If you enjoy wasting money

By Sweetwater Customer on September 25, 2010

If you enjoy wasting money on garbage, then by all means, purchase this desk.

This desk is maddeningly difficult to assemble, and nigh impossible to do so without wanting to smash the thing to pieces for being so incredibly poorly designed.

Do not buy this desk under any circumstances. I did, and now I have no choice but to either toss it in the trash, or leave it on the curb for some hapless soul to take.

I would personally rather drink a bucket of cyanide then have to deal with any On-Stage Stands product ever again.

Spend more - get something better

By Sweetwater Customer from Las Vegas on June 18, 2010 Music Background: Sr Sound Designer/Composer

I would not buy this again. The desk is made of pressed PAPER, covered in plastic that looks sort of like wood. I'm not talking about Formica here, it is more like a heat wrapped thin layer of plastic. I've honestly never seen anything this cheap - I was marveling at it while I was putting it together. Mine was damaged in a few places during shipping, but I need something to work on right away so I can't send it back. I will replace it when I can. Rollers on the drawer already started to pop out and I have only just put it together. I know there isn't much else out there in this price range, that's why I suggest you save a little more money up and buy something better. Honestly, this thing is junk and you've been warned!
