About Theremins
The theremin is a unique electronic musical instrument invented by Leon Theremin in the early 1920s. A user plays it without physical contact; instead, the musician’s hands manipulate electromagnetic fields around two antennas. One hand controls pitch by moving closer or farther from the vertical antenna, while the other hand controls volume with the horizontal antenna. How does a theremin work?
A theremin works by using your hands to interact with electromagnetic fields produced by the instrument. The distance between your hands and the antennas and your movements determine both pitch and volume. Moving the hand closer to the vertical antenna raises the pitch while moving the hand away lowers it; moving the hand closer to the horizontal antenna increases the volume, and moving it away decreases it.
