Gibson's Guitar of the Month for May '08 is Here! Gibson again innovates the Les Paul with the Les Paul Push-Tone! The Les Paul began life with a pair of P-90s and eventually migrated to a dual-humbucker design. Now you can pick your favorite Paul tone - or combination of the two - by simply popping the pickups out. The pickups snap into place and you're ready to go! Shipping with a pair of Burstbuckers and a pair of humbucker-sized P-90s (P-94s), the Les Paul Push-Tone is a true tonal innovation! Gibson Les Paul Push-Tone at a Glance:
Built on innovation The ability to change pickups by simply unhooking them and pushing them out of the guitar represents a huge - and extremely practical - innovation for guitarists. Gibson USA is proud to introduce the Les Paul Push-Tone - the Guitar of the Month for May 2008. Changing pickups has never been easier. A Gibson-designed system allows players to push the pickups out of the guitar, disconnect the wire clips, and plug in a new set of pickups in a matter of minutes. The Les Paul Push-Tone comes with two sets of Gibson pickups - a set of Burstbucker Pros and a set of P-94s. Go from the vintage humbucker tone of Gibson's legendary Burstbuckers, to the punchy and sweet tone of the humbucker-size, single-coil P-94s - or mix and match the two for a broad selection of tonal combinations. Neck The new Les Paul Push-Tone has many of the long-established features of the Les Paul, one of which is Gibson's traditional '50s rounded neck profile. The Les Paul Push-Tone joins Gibson's long list of fine instruments with ebony fingerboards. The resilience of this dense and durable wood makes these fingerboards extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The fret wire on the Gibson models is a combination nickel and silver alloy (approximately 80 percent nickel and 20 percent silver) specifically designed for long life and superior wear. Classic trapezoid inlays are one of the most distinguishable features of many traditional Gibson models, and the new Les Paul Push-Tone is no exception. The one difference is they are made of maple, giving the Push-Tone a unique look by matching inlays to the Antique Natural finish of the maple body top. Body The joining together of a solid mahogany back and maple top is a time-honored tradition at Gibson, and a critical part of making any Les Paul. On the Push-Tone, the mahogany back is matched with a stunning AAA figured maple top. There's something about playing a guitar with perfect tone, balance, and weight. One of the ways Gibson USA achieves this equilibrium is by carving carefully mapped-out chambers in the Les Paul's solid mahogany back using a Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) router before the maple top is glued on. The positioning of the routes was established after careful examination of the resonant characteristics of the Les Paul. In addition to relieving the stress on a player's back and shoulder, these lighter Gibson guitars also enhance the tone palette in a manner unique only to these guitars. The results are comfortable, lightweight guitars that are acoustically louder, with increased sustain and resonance. Pickups The Les Paul Push-Tone gives you the option of changing pickups at a moment's notice, and comes equipped with two sets of traditionally different pickups to choose from - Gibson's legendary Burstbucker Pros and the humbucker-size P-94 single-coils. The new Gibson-designed Push-Tone system lets players push the pickups out of the guitar, disconnect the wire clips, then plug in a new set of pickups in a matter of minutes. Each pickup is mounted on a base backed with a metal plate that holds it in place against the body of the guitar using a set of powerful magnets. You can plug in the Burstbuckers, or the P-94s, or any combination of both. The electronics of the Les Paul Push-Tone offer a high-fidelity boost with the addition of Gibson-designed, 24K gold-plated potentiometers manufactured by Bourns - one of the world's leading makers of electronic components for guitars. A newly designed output jack from Neutrik - renowned makers of audio and video connectors - locks your guitar cord in place, preventing the unexpected loss of connection.
